Edward Smith Obituary

Edward M. Smith, 79, died in the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood, Mass., on Sunday, May 25, 2008.
Born in Norwood on Nov. 11, 1928, to his parents Julian and Enid (Frazier) Smith, he graduated from Norwood High School with the class of 1946.
After high school, Mr. Smith entered the Merchant Marines serving during World War II.
He had been living in East Walpole, Mass., since 1955, moving from Hyde Park, Mass.
He was a truck driver for the Teamsters Union for 40 years.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Elks and a 50-year member of Azure Lodge in Walpole.
He was very active in both the Walpole Senior Group and the Norwood Senior Group.
He was the beloved husband of the late Yvette M. Smith; the loving father of Bernadette M. and her husband Barry Eddy of Largo, Fla.; cherished grandfather of five; great-grandfather of eight; and great-great-grandfather of one.
He was the longtime companion of Etta Willis of Dedham.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common St., Walpole, Mass., on Saturday, May 31, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours are Friday, May 30, from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment in Highland Cemetery Nor-wood.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Suite 31, Brockton, MA 02401.
