Frances Liguori Obituary

WESTERLY - Frances Jeanne Liguori, known to all as Jeanne, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, teacher, and beloved community figure. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Born on September 27, 1933, in Putnam, Connecticut, to Estelle and Euclid Phaneuf, Jeanne brought joy, creativity, and warmth into every space she entered. She began teaching dance immediately after graduating from high school and opened Jeanne's Dance Center in 1957-a studio that would become a pillar of the Westerly community for decades to come.

Just before he left to serve in Korea, Jeanne met Charles Liguori at the beach in Misquamicut. They kept in touch through heartfelt letters during his time overseas and married in 1956 upon his return, beginning a marriage that would last 68 years. Together, they built a home and life centered around family, creativity, and coastal living.

In Westerly, Jeanne became affectionately known to generations of students and families as Miss Jeanne. Through her studio, she taught hundreds of children the art of dance and gymnastics, guiding them with patience, strength, and joy. Her annual recitals were a cherished tradition, uniting the community and celebrating the talents of her students in performances that radiated heart and grace.

Jeanne had a gift with children and a vibrant, engaging spirit. She was at her best with music playing, sunlight streaming in, and family all around her. She loved the beach, her family, and the rhythm of life she found in dance.

Jeanne is survived by her four children and their families: Lisa Servidio (Chris), and their children: Cara Servidio (Eric) Piccolo, Leslie Scheck (Kyle), and Jamie Servidio; David Liguori (Marybeth), and their children: Christopher (Kelly), Elizabeth, and Scott Liguori; Michael Liguori (Christine), and their son Jesse Liguori; Steven Liguori (Rebecca), and their sons: Denison, Henry, and Landon.

She is also survived by many great-grandchildren who adored her. Jeanne was predeceased by her husband Charlie, her parents Estelle and Euclid, and her brother Paul Phaneuf.

The family is deeply grateful for the wonderful care Jeanne received over the past two and a half years from the team at Westerly Health Center.

Her energy, grace, and unwavering devotion to family and community will live on through the generations she inspired, the lives she shaped, and the town that lovingly called her Miss Jeanne.

Family will greet friends and relatives on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 from 4-7PM at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St. Westerly, RI

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 10AM at St. Pius Catholic Church, 44 Elm St. Westerly, RI. Burial will follow the mass at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly, RI.
