Janet Hannah Obituary

Janet Hannah

Janet (Jan) Elsie Hannah was born on September 5, 1944 to Fredrick and Mary Janette Miller in East Greenwich, RI and passed away on October 30, 2024, just a few weeks after her 80th birthday.

Jan graduated from East Greenwich High School in 1962 and shortly after, Jan married the love of her life, John (Jay) T. Hannah. Together they raised two daughters, Tammy Lamphere and Kara Baruti. The couple spent over 50 years building a beautiful life together.

Jan worked, for many years, at the Beacon Diner in East Greenwich, RI starting in 1967. Vern and Marlene Knott, owners of the Beacon, and some of the long time employees and customers were like family. Jan rounded out her working years as an employee of The State of Rhode Island, from which she retired. After retir-

ing, Jan worked tirelessly with Jay to make Hannah's Farm Alpacas a dream come true. They enjoyed competing at Alpaca shows, setting up at local Farmer's Markets and were part of Hop Arts every year. Jan transformed the alpaca fleece into beautiful works of clothing art and won many blue ribbons at the local fairs. Jan also tended to her gorgeous perennial gardens and 100's of humming birds. Jan's favorite hobby was road trips with her bestie, Barbara Murphy (Murph!) Her compassion for animals was obvious by her loyal dog Jenny, a collection of bunnies and her beautiful cats.

Jan's memory will live on forever in the stories from her two grandsons, Jaydan and Wyatt Baruti ,who affectionately called her Gogs, Her two son-in-laws Joel Lamphere and Dan Baruti. Her ageless sister, Diane Bassette. Her nieces, Lu Anne Davenport, Linda Cavanaugh and Heidi Olson, who gave her the nickname Bup. Jan leaves behind The Ingram family (extended), who watched over her after Jay passed

A Celebration of Life will be planned the early summer of 2025, where family and friends can share memories/stories of a woman who was a gift of grit, kindness, determination and humor.

My grandma was the best grandma I could ever wish for. As I grow older and I still can hear her voice in the garden on the side of her house where she spent a most of her time. she was the best.
