John Kenyon, III Obituary

John Lincoln Kenyon, III, 89, a lifelong resident of Westerly, passed away surrounded by the love of family members in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. John was the husband of Lois (Betts) Kenyon who preceded him in death. Born in Westerly, R.I., on May 23, 1928, he was the son of the late John L. Kenyon, Jr., and the late Aileen Ivy (Maxwell) Hall.
John served his country proudly retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and had served during the Korean War. After the service, he continued to help others as an educator and guidance counselor for the North Stonington School System until his retirement. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending his time out on the water lobstering for over 60 years. John (affectionately known as Bud) was an active man who loved summers with friends and family on the waters off of Watch Hill and Napatree Point along with winters skiing in Maine. Most importantly, he loved his family and his times spent with them were some of his most cherished memories. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He leaves his three children Beth Kenyon, Bruce Kenyon and Jamie Kenyon; five grandchildren Tia, Erika, Ashley, Jonathan and Bailey; seven great-grandchildren. Besides his wife Lois, John was preceded in death by his daughter Willa (Kenyon) Holstein.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Buckler- Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, R.I. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home. Burial will follow at First Hopkinton Cemetery.

I am so sorry that I just learned of John's passing. He was a good friend of mine at Wheeler, and in many respects a trusted mentor. My condolences to all who will miss him--cherish your memories. Meanwhile, I will continue to quote one of his many "words of wisdom" about genetics ("You plant potatoes, you get potatoes!") and remember him every time I do.

So sorry of hearing Mr Kenyon's passing. He was my science teacher back in the 60s and a friend to many of us. I always remember Mr Kenyon attending our after school sports and academic functions. I especially remember when he started the Outdoor Club and how he would take our club up to Hewitts pond fishing after school. Great memories of a great guy. RIP
