Joyce Bonomo Obituary
Born in Johnston, RI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Arrico.
She worked 34 years for Stonington Public Schools, the last 16 years before she retired, Joyce worked as the secretary to the SHS principal. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Stonington Garden Club. Joyce was famous for her sunflowers which grew to be 14 feet high. She also enjoyed walking and making delicious meals.
Joyce will be dearly missed by her husband Philip and their three children, Philip J. Bonomo Jr. and wife Arleen of Pawcatuck, David J. Bonomo and wife Nancy of Cheshire, CT, and Valerie Laporte and husband Rick of Bluffton, SC. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Carolyn Laporte, Abby Laporte, Joshua Bonomo and Lily Bonomo. She loved her grandchildren very, very much.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 4th from 5pm 7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 5th, at St. Michael Church, Pawcatuck. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck. Family requests contributions be made to the St. Michael Capital Campaign Fund, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, CT 06379 in Joyce's memory. Sending condolences to Mrs.Bonomo´s family. I knew her from West Vine Street School in the late 1970´s and early 1980´s. She was quite kind to all of us when we´d see her. Mrs.Bonomo supervised recess along with Mrs. Lamb. The two of them wore long coats, which made them easy to spot on the playground. Mrs. Bonomo wore a long, brown, wool coat and Mrs.Lamb wore a long, green, quilted coat. We could always count on them being there to watch over our activities, making sure we kept safe on the equipment and out of trouble. I appreciated Mrs. Bonomo´s friendly smile and her kind ways. I will continue to remember her very fondly.

I enjoyed visiting with Mrs Bonomo in December while she and my mom shared a room at westerly rehab. I am very sorry to hear of her passing and send my deepest sympathies to the Bonomo family.
