Marita Mackey

1931 - 2024

Marita Mackey, 92, of Charlestown, RI, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born on March 4,1931, she was the only child of the late George and Frances Henshaw of Tarrytown, NY.
Marita was the wife of Nelson Mackey, who predeceased her, and the mother of 5 children, Maureen Mackey and her partner Frederick Schoff, Robert Mackey, Patricia Christides and her husband Angelo, Kevin Mackey and Donald Mackey and his wife Susan. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by them all.
Marita lived most of her life in Westchester County, New York and retired from the Westlake High School in Thornwood where she worked in the principal's office. She had a long and active retirement, first in Virginia Beach, VA where she was an avid golfer and for the last 20 years in Westerly and Charlestown, RI. When she first arrived In Rhode Island she volunteered at the Westerly Hospital and more recently was a dedicated member of the Charlestown Senior Center where she was still playing bridge through the end of last year. She will be missed by all her friends there. Beyond bridge, Marita enjoyed other games including Scrabble, Words With Friends and Wordle. She never missed watching Jeopardy every night with her son, Kevin. She was a wonderful cook, loved to travel and was never without a family cat.
Visitation will be held in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI on Friday, January 19th, 2024 from 11 am-1 pm.
