Paul DiGangi Obituary

PAWCATUCK - Paul David DiGangi, 78, passed away at the Westerly Hospital on September 13, 2025 with his beloved wife and daughter holding his hands.

Born in Westerly, RI and a lifelong resident of Pawcatuck, CT, Paul was the son of the late Paul F. and Louise DiGangi.

Paul graduated from Providence College in 1968 and worked for the Family Division of CT Superior Court until 1985 when a tragic car accident resulted in a debilitating traumatic brain injury.

Paul had a passion for sports and for many years played, coached and refereed for a variety of local leagues including basketball, softball and football. An avid PC Friars fan, even after he was no longer able to attend in person, he never missed a game.

Paul was a very active volunteer in the community. He organized the local Cancer Crusade basketball tournament for many years and continued to lend a hand with the programs and activities at the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center well into his retirement years.

Paul leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Maret, who dedicated herself to his care up until the very end. In addition to his wife, Paul leaves behind his daughter, Leanne Theodore, and son-in-law, Kristian.

Paul always met the multitude of challenges that he faced over the last 40 years with strength, resilience, determination and grace. He never lost his sense of humor, always ready with a witty 'one-liner.' In his honor, we ask that you may consider holding a compassionate place in your heart for those with special needs and move forward with care and empathy, offering a helping hand when and where you can.

Friends are invited to join Paul's family - to share a story or a laugh - in celebrating his life at Buon Appetito Ristorante, 386 Norwich-Westerly Road, North Stonington, CT on Friday, September 26th from 12:00-2:00pm. Donations in his memory may be made to:
