Paul Schmitz Obituary

Paul E. Schmitz, 76, of North Niantic Drive, Charlestown, died Thursday. He was the husband of Maureen (Clancy) Schmitz, and they had been married for 50 years.
Born in City Island, New York, he was a son of the late Paul and Friedel (Zorgiebel) Schmitz.
Mr. Schmitz was employed for New York Telephone for many years, retiring as a telephone engineer. He enjoyed radio-controlled airplanes, fishing, boating and golfing. He was a communicant of St. James Chapel, and served the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was the father of: Carolann Finley of Carmel, N.Y., Maryann Dona of Dudley, Mass., Cmdr. Joanne Schmitz (U.S. Navy, Ret.) of Sherbourne, England and James Schmitz of Melbourne, Fla., and is also survived by six grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Carla Berger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are at The Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, Monday 4 to 7 p.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. James Chapel, PO Box 475, Carolina RI 02812.
