Penelope Gaye (Smith) Galbraith

Penelope Gaye (Smith) Galbraith, 65, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and adoring grandmother, lost her battle with breast cancer at home on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007.
Born to Herbert and Agnes Smith on April 1, 1942, in Southbridge, Mass., Penny grew up in Queens Village, N.Y., where she met and married the love of her life, John Galbraith, on Nov. 17, 1962.
Penny and John then moved to Levittown where they raised their family. While in Levittown, she was very active with St. Michael the Archangel School, the Block Rosary Society and as a teacher at the St. Ignatius of Antioch School for over 10 years.
Penny enjoyed the outdoors, sailing and gardening. She was a member of the Colington Harbor Yacht Club, Master Gardeners of Dare County, very active with Meals on Wheels, the Outer Banks Food Pantry, and a member of the Kill Devil Hills YMCA Water Aerobics Group. She was the founding member (Queen Mother) of the Red Hat Society, Antique Rose Chapter.
She will be missed by her husband, John; sister, Valerie; children, Shawn and Pam Galbraith, Scott and Lori Galbraith, Catherine-Mary Galbraith and Peter Galbraith; grandchildren, Sarah, Hannah, Zachary, and Rachel; and numerous cousins and friends whose lives are richer and fuller due to knowing her.
Calling hours have been held at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, and a Funeral Mass was celebrated this morning at St. Michael the Archangel Church, both in Levittown, Pa.
Friends may call on Saturday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at the Church of St. Clare Church, St. Clare Way, Misquamicut.
Interment will take place in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation or the charity of donor's choice.
