Peter Moore Obituary

Peter F. Moore, husband of Patricia (Barkhorn) Moore, of Wamphassuc Road, Stonington, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, after suffering complications from a year-long battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was 64.
Peter was born in Westerly, RI on July 24, 1957 to Tom and Marguerite Moore of Pawcatuck, CT, and lived most of his life in Stonington, CT.
He attended The Taft School in Watertown CT, and he ultimately graduated from the University of Rhode Island after spending time at Macalester College and The University of Vermont. For most of his professional career, Peter held the positions of President and Chair of the Board at The Moore Company in Westerly.
Peter's parents gifted him with a passion for travel. From a young age, he took every opportunity to venture around the world. Whether he was on his own or accompanied by various family members, his wife and their children, friends, or colleagues, Peter always returned home with memorable stories and new connections.
Most remembered for his larger-than-life personality, unfailing sense of humor, and endless interests, Peter was as comfortable and content performing for a crowd as he was quietly tending to the living things in his backyard. When not singing lead vocals and playing harmonica for The Sidewinders with his brother John on the drums, Peter was watering his garden, harvesting oysters from his dock, feeding his chickens, or fishing for striped bass off of Napatree Point. Peter sincerely enjoyed sharing his knowledge about and enthusiasm for his many hobbies with his community. He organized the Blue Monday Concert Series every summer in the Mystic River Park and served as a proud member of the Stonington Shellfish Commission.
In addition to Patricia, he leaves behind three daughters, Lucy Linden Flynn Moore of Stonington, Millicent Barkhorn Moore of Manhattan, N.Y., and Cecilia Fahey Moore of Seattle, Wash.; siblings, Dorothea Moore of Stonington, Marguerite "Daisy" Smythe of Matunuck, R.I., Liza Moore of Freeport, Maine, John Moore of Mystic, Alexandra Moore of Stonington, and Susan Metz of Reston, Va.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his brother Timmy Moore and his parents.
Peter's spirit was best exemplified by his ability to be equally engaging and entertaining, uniquely offering a quick quip and genuine generosity in the same breath. He will be dearly missed and eternally celebrated.

Ironically my husband, John Izbicki, passed the same day as fellow harmonica player, Peter. They both will be missed on the music scene. My condolences I know what you are going thru first hand.

So very sorry to all of Peter's family, and friends. Always enjoyed visits with Peter at the local bait shop. His diverse knowledge and patience, made him such a facinating person to talk to. He also shared his passion for raising chickens, about 12 years ago. An experience I would not have know, if it weren't for him. I would also like to acknowledge Peter's efforts, while serving on the Stonington Shellfish Commission. You will most certainly will be missed my old friend. May you rest in peace.

Thea, Daisy, Liza, John, Alex & Susie,
My sisters & I are shocked and saddened to hear of Peter's passing. When we first moved into our new house on Pequot Trail, I was tasked with weeding the yard (only about an acre!). Peter came over to see what I was up to. While we were talking, my sister yelled down from one of the upstairs room - mimicing my mother - "You're going to weed and re-weed until it's flat as an iron!!" Peter & I got a big laugh out of that. The last time I talked to him, several years ago for sure, that the the very first thing he said to me. We still both got a laugh out of it!! My thoughts & prayers are with you all.

I was shocked to hear of Pete's passing. As a fellow musician, I've gotten to know both Pete and John over the years. We only had a few chances to play together but it was always a blast. Pete was a talented musician and a great guy. The local music scene won't be the same without Pete and his harmonica.

Condolences to John and the rest of the Moore family. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Peter Moore. Peter was a unique and very special person and I´m very lucky to have been associated with him during his presidency at The Moore Company. I´ll always cherish the conversations we shared and his guidance and patience as well as his leadership. A very gently and patient man.
