Peter Pinkhover Obituary

WESTERLY - Peter A. Pinkhover, 87, of Westerly, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025. Born on November 30, 1937, in Cranston, Rhode Island, Peter was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was the son of John Pickhover and Maude Wilkinson.

Peter proudly served his country as a Combat Engineer in the 317th Engineer Battalion of the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, where he spent time in both Hchst, Germany and Beirut, Lebanon. After an honorable discharge in 1962, Peter worked at General Dynamics Electric Boat for 37 years as a paint supervisor and earned his bachelors degree in business management from Johnson and Wales University.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of more than 63 years, Carolyn (Brousseau) Pinkhover, alongside their two sons, Peter W. of Westerly and Richard of Ashaway. His three grandchildren, Allyson of Holbrook, MA, Nicholas of Boston, MA, and Bradley of Westerly, brought him immense joy and were a constant source of pride. He was the brother of the late Brian Pickhover, John Pickhover, and Stephen Sewell, and was also predeceased by Mrs. Florence Miner, a supportive and influential person in his formative years.

A lifelong lover of animals, Peter always held a special place for the companionship of animals. He had a fascination with nature and all its creatures, especially several beloved dogs over the years including Dickie, Nova, Simba, and his great grand-dog Tessie.

Peter will be remembered for his dedication to his family, strong work ethic, and his genuine curiosity for nature and the world around him.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 7, 2025, held from 5-7p at Buckler-Johnson Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, RI 02891. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 11am at St. Michael's Church, Pawcatuck, CT. Burial will follow the funeral mass at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Westerly Animal Shelter.

The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to Dr. Matthew Austin and the team at the Westerly Smilow Cancer Center for their compassionate and dedicated care of Peter over the last several years.

Pinkhover Family,
Pete's Sunrise was November 30, 1937, his Sunset was January 30, 2025. Pete and I shared many days in the Village of White Rock in the late 1940 and early 1950. Pete grown up on Varietyville road also called Upper Canel St. I recall Pedee Church, Donnie West, Donnie Cornell and Rich Siciliano playing sports, riding bicycles, swimming in the Pawcatuck River, horseback riding and playing all sorts of games. Pete lived on the Miner Farm and milked cows and gathered hay. Pete and I were a year older than the other guys we were the last group to attend the Old White Rock School. Pete and I were members of the WHS class of "1957". We both were US Army veterans. I salute you Pete for your service. We both worked at EB in Groton.
Pete was a quiet man with a great smile and very polite. He left a footprint on Mother Earth for many to follow. I played basketball with his son Richard at the YMCA he could dripple the ball and shoot very well. In my Indian world Pete was a WARRIOR. He will be missed at our class luncheons
his name will be mentioned. Rest in peace our path will cross again in the spirit world.
I am presently at my winter home in Florida and unable to attend his services.
