Ralph Ahern Obituary
Buddy will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and the great jokes he liked to tell. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie and their eight children; Larry (Lynn) of Westerly, Lester (Paula) of Westerly, Donald of Stonington, Debra Lewis of Westerly, Steven (Katrina) of Westerly, Sandra Vandiver of Westerly, Scott (Terry) of North Stonington, Glenn (Maria) of Hopkinton, 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His is also survived by his sisters, Jessie King of Fla., Joyce Crider of Ashaway, and Phyllis Obermann of Westerly and his brothers, John and James Ahern of North Stonington, and many neices, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph L. Ahern Sr. and Hazel (Whipple) Ahern and his sisters, Blanche Hill, Betty Johnson and Gloria Crider.
Buddy worked extremely hard to support his large family. Among his many jobs, he was the Hopkinton Highway Supervisor, a Hopkinton Police Reservist and he retired from the State of R.I. Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
Buddy was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia several years ago and was cared for in his home, by his wife, children and several of his grandchildren.
He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. His private funeral was held Friday, Feb. 5. A celebration of his life will be held with a picnic, on what would have been his 80th birthday, June 5 at The Pendleton Hill First Baptist Church in North Stonington, Conn.

I remember Buddy from the N.S.Fair and Grange Hall. I, was a Police Officer in N.S. for about 17yrs. While Buddy for with Hopkinton Police Dept. He also had a smile on his face whenever you saw him many good times. God Bless the Ahern and Crider families. He would light up a room when he entered with his jokes and smile. I left N.S. in the early 90's and moved to Harrisonville, Mo. Joined the Cass Co. Sheriff's Dept. and retired in 2007 as Medical Supervisor after 14yrs. of service we never know how minds go the same way as others. As we walk through life we must never forget the good people that we meet along the way. Buddy God will walk over your family until you all meet again in Heaven.RIP.

I was so sorry to read of Buddy's passing in the Westerly Sun. My husband Bob Passed away on January 22nd so I know what you are going through. Buddy sure did put up a good fight. I will always remember the days at the Wood River Inn and him telling his good jokes.
