Sophie B. Pukas

Sophie B. Pukas, 89, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 in Dunns Corners, where she lived at the home of her sister, Viola Manfredi.
She was born in Hope Valley to the late Marianna and Jan Pukas and grew up with five sisters and two brothers.
Blessed with an outstanding memory, a love of music and a wry sense of humor, Sophie loved dancing, especially the jitterbug and polka.
She worked locally as a weaver at the former Warner Brothers Co., and subsequently at Ashaway Line & Twine, the Imperial Paper Co. and the garage farm stand at Manfredi Farms, where she enjoyed meeting customers and selling vegetables.
She is survived by her sister, Viola, and several nieces and nephews.
Sophie was grateful to her devoted caregivers: Melissa Manfredi, Michelle Anderson, Maji Wossencroft, Tricia Kusmit, Cheryl Murray, Deb Martin, Stacey Allen, Sarah Closterman, Kerrin Kubacki, Melissa Miller, Jillian Rios and Tammy Monroe as well as Dr. Walter Curtice, physical therapist, Gus Brucker and the services of Home & Hospice of R.I. and VNS Home Health Services of South County.
Family and friends will gather Thursday, Oct. 1 at 8:45 a.m. at the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 7 Church St., Bradford. Burial will be at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
