Susan Andrews Herr

Susan Jean Andrews Herr passed away on October 31, 2024 in Longwood, Florida. She was born in Westerly, Rhode Island on September 30, 1942 to Dorothy and George Barney Andrews.

Susan was raised in Stonington, Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island graduating from Westerly High School in 1960. After graduating as a Registered Nurse from the Roger Williams School of Nursing in Providence, Rhode Island she took a position at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City in the summer of 1963.

After marrying her husband, Richard D. Dick Herr, in New London Connecticut in June 1964 she became a loyal and active military wife providing a sound Home Base for their family as Dick carried out his military duties and deployments. Between the west, gulf and east coasts of the United States, they moved 24 times before

fully retiring in Longwood, Florida.

After their sons were off to the Air Force and Coast Guard Academies, Susan became heavily involved in geriatric nursing, setting up multiple Alzheimer units in Mobile, Alabama and Severna Park, Maryland. At Dick's retirement, she was recognized for her valuable contributions to supporting Coast Guard personnel and their families with the U. S. Coast Guard Distinguished Public Service Award.

Susan was an engaging conversationalist who found great joy interacting with people. She enjoyed playing bridge and participating in several women's organizations.

Susan is predeceased by her brother, Timothy. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dick, sons Sean (Gina) and Christopher (Mercy), grandchildren Kelli Maez (Nick), Kayley Price (Austin), Brian (Sarah), Katelyn and Natalie, great grandchildren, Layla Price, and Peter and her brother Todd (Roberta).

Susan will be inurned with her husband in the Columbarium at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, we kindly ask that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in Susans name.

Dear Dick, Carol & I did not have the opportunity to get to know Susan over the past 60 years but empathize with your grief at her passing.
