Clarice Nicol Obituary

Nicol Clarice H. T. Rausch Nicol, age 98, of Marysville, died Monday, March 20, 2017 at Memorial Gables. A homemaker, she and her late husband, LeRoy, operated their family farm for 64 years on Middleburg-Plain City Road east of Unionville Center. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chuckery. As a child, she attended St. John's Lutheran school. She was baptized as an infant at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church where she was later confirmed in the faith on March 20, 1932 by Rev. Gerken. She was a 1937 graduate of Marysville High School where she was first chair trumpet in the band and played Taps for Memorial Day services at Oakdale Cemetery that same year. A member of 4-H throughout her childhood, she later became a 4-H advisor for the sewing and food preservation club, Darby Debs, for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and especially loved traveling. She journeyed to many destinations, including England, Germany, Switzerland, Hawaii, Alaska, Panama and the Bermuda Islands. Following her husband's death in 1976, she continued to live on the family farm. She will be remembered for her hard-working ethic, strength of character and profound Christian faith. She was born July 27, 1918 in Marysville to the late August K. and Bertha Clara Rausch Rausch. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, LeRoy W. J. Nicol whom she married April 9, 1939 at St. John's Church parsonage, two daughters JoAnn Garlinghouse and Vivienne Nicol, a granddaughter Suzanne Kidwell, brothers-and sisters-in-law Marlow and Jean Rausch and Harold and Harriett Nicol, a sister-and-brother-in-law Ruth and Bill Limes and a nephew, Michael Rausch. She is survived by three daughters, Jeanine (Tom) Rausch of Marysville, Nancy (Dr. Dennis) Brunskill of Pittsburgh and Cheryl (John) Alexander of Marysville; nine grandchildren, Bruce (Lori) Rausch, LuAnn Reed, Jay (Lori) Rausch, Terri (Clarien) Oldham, Tami Garlinghouse, Tim (Pam) Garlinghouse, Robert Brunskill, Beaux Alexander and Kerri (Scott) Duncan; great grandchildren, Tara (Jared) Maine, Nick (Kathryn) Rausch, Brice (Kristi) Rausch, Jamie (Jim) Hodges, Tyler (Michelle) Reed, Trent (Liz) Reed, Rachel Kidwell, Emma (Kyle) Jacobs, Kristin Rausch, Trevien Rausch, Erin (Josh) Richmond, Amber (Devin) Ventola, Cara (Dan) Ice, Stuart (Elizabeth Kruder) Oldham, Brittany Cooper, Beanca (Sam) Cooper, Gage Garlinghouse, Josie Duncan and Drue Duncan; great-great grandchildren, Holtz, Livianne, Audrey, Preston, Ethan, Jackson, Abigail, Madeline, George, Charlee, Ethan, Cassie, Dane, Vera, Lucca, Ashton, Brynlee, Aiden, Emeri, Madison, Celia, Mina and Edison; a brother, Ivan (Jackie) Rausch of Hilliard; nieces and nephews, Clark Rausch, Brett Rausch, Wendy Hambel, Richard Limes, Doug Limes, Bruce Limes, Barb Miller, Don Nicol, Sharon Mason, Susan Boyer, Tonya Parker; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church where the family will receive friends one-hour prior to the service. Rev. Paul R. Schlueter will officiate and burial will be beside her husband at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers Bruce Rausch, Beaux Alexander, Scott Duncan, Clarien Oldham, Clark Rausch and. Brett Rausch. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Loving Care Hospice. UNDERWOOD FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.
