John Murphy Obituary

MURPHY John R. Murphy, 74, of Delaware, Ohio, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 while living his passion; riding his horse on a trail on a beautiful fall day. John was born in Chicago Heights in 1936. He retired from the American Cancer Society after a successful career in non-profits. John was a Marine Corps veteran. While in the service of his country, Johnny (BMF) was the undefeated middle-weight boxing champion of The United States Marine Corps 1st division. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and had 8 professional fights. Johns' professional boxing career was cut short by a tragic accident in which he lost his arm. The challenges that Johnny overcame in his lifetime made him a role model and inspiration for all who knew him. John was an accomplished horseman and used his skills to teach riding to physically and developmentally challenged children and adults. Johnny was preceded in death by his loving wife Sara, his parents John and Rosella Murphy and his brother Terry. He is survived by his daughter, Lyrin; his siblings, Mary Ellen, Denny, Kitty, Jimmy, Timmy, Frankie, Billy, Maureen and Joe. Memorial contributions may be made to White Pine Stable Therapeutic Riding Center (TRC). whitepinestablestrc.org. You will be so missed dad. RODMAN NEEPER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family. Dear Lyrin, I heard about your dad's passing at Mass last week. Oh, I am so sorry and my heart aches for you! However, I find comfort, and I hope you can too, that he is in heaven with Jesus and a whole host of other great folks--your Mom and my John included! They are looking upon you, helping you and loving you. God bless you during this time and always. Call me when you have a free moment...

Hugs,

Sheila

Lyrin, We are so sorry to hear about your sweet Father. His radiant smile and fun loving personality will forever be in our memory. We met your Mom and Dad at St. Joan several years back and we enjoyed talking with them after Mass. Rachel and Sam loved coming to your house and riding the horses. He even came to one of Sam's championship baseball games. We are so saddened to hear that he as passed but joy is in our hearts that he died doing what he loved - riding his beloved horses. We hope to be able to join your prayer service on Thursday. Know that you are in our prayers during this difficult time. Your friends in Christ, Chuck, Colleen, Rachel and Sam Lewis

YOU MUST BE SO PROUD OF HIM! My memory of your dad will remain close to my heart forever!
All my sympathy to you and your family!

I only met John a few months ago when he rode the Alum Creek trails with my firend & I. He stayed with us because we were new to the trails. At one point we were cantering up several Hills in a row & he turned to us with a big grin saying "That was so much fun!' Happy Trails John. May you be riding with your maker.
If i can be of service placing his horse please let me know.
