Steven Hall Obituary

Hall Steven V. Hall, age 44, passed away on February 17, 2015 at the OSU James Cancer Center where he has undergone treatment during the last 18 months. He was born March 15, 1970 in Lima, Ohio. He graduated from Wayne Trace High School in 1988 where he earned 11 varsity letters and was class valedictorian. He deeply loved the people of Payne, Ohio and was thankful for his upbringing there. Steve graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1993. He went on to obtain a master's degree in education from Ohio Dominican University. While at The Ohio State University, Steve played basketball for the Buckeyes for four years. During that time, he was part of two Big Ten Championship teams. Steve was named an OSU scholar athlete each of his four years and was an academic all Big Ten athlete for three years. He is survived by his wife, Kellie (Leggett); children, Eli and Emma; parents, John and Rose Ann; brother, Bill (Tricia) Hall; sister, Angie (Kenny) Speice; nieces and nephews, Lauren, Justin, Meagan Speice, and Zachary and Ethan Hall; grandmother, Marie Hall; mother-in-law, Vicki Leggett (Terry); sister-in-law, Jodie (Leggett) Jones; brother-in-law, Scott Jones; nephews, Easton and Isaiah; and grandmother Kate Swaldo. Steve was a beloved teacher and coach at Grandview Heights High School for the past 18 years. While teaching math, he was known for his sense of humor and treating his students, and everyone he encountered, with kindness and respect. While coaching multiple sports, he valued his time in the gym and on the field of play. He especially valued all the lessons sports have to offer. Above all, Steve enjoyed time spent with his family. He treasured time spent outdoors-hiking with his family from the top of the Smoky Mountains and to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Steve Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund for the benefit GHHS students (mail to 1021 Avondale Avenue, Columbus, OH 43212) or the Jimmy V Foundation (www.jimmyv.org). Steve appreciated the care he received from his doctors at the James and especially the nursing staff on the 19th floor. A future Pelotonia team will be formed in his honor as a way to give back to OSU and the James. His family will receive friends on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus (with a Prayer Service at 8 p.m.). His funeral Mass is Monday, February 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff). Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center. Dear Hall family....We were so sorry to learn of Steve's death....after such a brave and bold fight with cancer. He was an outstanding man and people in the Communities where he resided have nothing but admiration and praise for the way he conducted himself throughout his short life. He brought so much joy, pride and 'class' to not only the classrooms where he worked but to the Communities where he lived. We'll always reflect fondly on his life....that he so unselfishly shared with all who knew or came in contact with him. Our sympathy to his beloved family. Jim & Vicki Hooker, Mesa,Arizona

What a special man in many ways! I had the privilege of knowing him from high school! One thing I can say is each time I saw him in the community he had a smile that lit up the room! My prayers go out to his family and friends! Try to remember you didn't lose someone, you gained an Angel! Also, as athletic as he was, he won the race! He is in Heaven and what a great place to be! Lots of prayers to your family!

We lost a great man. I can't say I knew him well, but I coached years against him. His teams were always gracious and sportsmanlike. They reflected the man leading them with a kind and gracious manner. He will be missed.

We Can measure a mans life by the how full there "box of life is" we fill it with life experiences ,people we influence, people we love ,lives we change and the people we help. Some lives are long and there box is empty and some are short but there box is full.
Steve had a very full box

Steve didn't teach either of my girls but they always liked him & respected him. He was such a strong presence. We had the pleasure of camping with you and the Heckers several years ago. My oldest daughter, Courtney, rescued your puppy, Charlie, when he got loose and headed for Grandview Avenue traffic. You, Kellie, sent the cutest kindest thank you note.
