Allyn Grahn Obituary

Allyn Grahn, 83, of Valley City, ND formerly Carrington, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on November 4, 2023. The funeral service for Allyn will be 10:30 am, Friday, November 10, 2023, at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.

Allyn Grahn, born on August 11, 1940, to Fritz and Mae Grahn peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on November 4, 2023. Allyn spent his school years attending Wimbledon, ND. On October 12th, 1962, he married the love of his life, Elaine Walker, at the Presbyterian Church in Courtney, ND.

Allyn and Elaine established their permanent home in Carrington, where Allyn initially worked at a furniture store. However, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own successful flooring company, which he passionately pursued for 23 years. Allyn found joy in square dancing with Elaine and often included her in his hunting and fishing adventures.

Following the loss of Elaine, Allyn relocated to Valley City, ND, to be closer to his family. He cherished spending time with loved ones, sharing hunting and fishing stories, and hosting memorable occasions such as holidays, fish frys, Superbowl gatherings, and other special events. Allyn's heart would particularly light up when he spent time with his great-great nieces and nephews, Stella, Harper, Lochlan, Clara, and Henrik, who always showered him with special hugs during their visits.

Allyn will be fondly remembered by his brother Luverne (Margaret) Carroll and their family. Niece, Larinda (Rick) Velure, and their children, Chelsey (Luke) Hanson, Eric (Meghan), and Ethan (Halie) Velure, hold cherished memories of their beloved Uncle Allyn. Additionally, his nephews, Joe (Karen) Walker, children Jasen (Amanda), and Kayla; Bob (Renette) Walker, children Cameron (Charmaine), and Mitchell; late nephew Tim (Jennie) Walker, children Tyson (Lindsey), Brent (Lacie), Allison, and Nicole; along with his six great-great nieces and four great-great nephews, were blessed to have him touch their lives.

Special friendships were an essential part of Allyn's life, and he treasured the companionship of Beverly and the late Clayton Velure; Dean and Debby Ross; Jenny (Chad Wendel) Kriewald and children Kelsey, Jocey, Reis, Maddie, and Hudson; Mike (Erica) Ross and children Piper & Pearson; Julie (Wade Hatcher) Tower; Melissa (Josh) Schroeder and children Evan and Jack.

Allyn is preceded in death by his beloved wife, his mother and father, sister Jean and husband Earl Johnson, mother & father-in-law Joe and Gladys Walker, and brothers-in-law George and John Walker.

Allyn will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
