Chase Jenison Obituary

Chase Jenison, age 17, of Valley City, ND, died Thursday, January 17th. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 21st at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church and one hour before the service Monday. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the church. Burial will be in Faith Church Cemetery, rural Valley City, ND.
Chase Merrit Jenison, the son of Lance and Laney (Glover) Jenison, was born July 2, 2001 in Brookings, SD. From a young age, Chase was inquisitive and cherished learning new information. He loved being read to as a young child and as he got older, he became an avid reader of science fiction and history. Chase's memory was amazing and he enjoyed debating over philosophical ideas and views. He would always back his point of view with factual statements and quotes from sources he had read. In addition to his admiration of wisdom, Chase thrived in sports from an early age. He slept with a soccer ball in his crib, placed by his dad, who later had the privilege to be his coach. He had many good times teaching his brothers how to kick around a ball when they first learned to walk. Chase began playing organized sports in preschool in both soccer and hockey. On the ice, he made many friends and many goals. As a 6th grader, Chase was made captain of Jamestown Valley City Prowl PeeWee B team. Most recently, Chase is remembered for being a leader in soccer, having served as a Co-Captain of the Jamestown High School Blue Jays soccer team this fall. He spent many summers playing soccer with the Jamestown Competitive Soccer program and gained many valuable friendships over the years. He valued time with his friends, watching movies, playing video games, and exploring technology. Additionally, Chase was a valued employee at Leever's Grocery Store, known for his strong work ethic and friendly demeanor. Family friends would comment that Chase took time to visit with them as he took out their groceries.
He is survived by his loving parents Lance and Laney Jenison, his two younger brothers Gabe and Kael, his grandparents Kate and John Jenison and Arlene Young. Chase is also survived by many relatives including aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts, great uncles, many special friends, and coaches.
Chase was preceded in death by his cousin River Jenison, his grandpa Alan Glover, and great grandparents Clarence and Violet Jenison and Jerome and Grace Blank.
Chase touched the lives of family members, friends, and the communities of Valley City and Jamestown and will always have a special place in our hearts. May you rest in peace, our beloved spirit, Chase Merrit Jenison.

To Chase's family. I'm so sorry for your loss. Something that has comforted me during times of loss is keeping in mind the beautiful invitation God extends to us personally at 1 Peter 5:6, 7. May you and your family find comfort in it as well.
