Harley Hansen Obituary

Harley D. Hansen, 87, Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo.
Harley Dale Hansen was born on July 26, 1934, at the family farm, rural Fingal, ND, to Grover and Mamie (Wadeson) Hansen.  Harley attended Clifton Township grade school and Fingal Public School where he graduated in 1952.  Harley became a farmer the day he was born, and retired from farming on April 8th, 2022, when he passed away.
On August 29, 1957, Harley married Evie Siegel at the United Methodist Church in Enderlin, ND.  Harley and Evie farmed together on the farm where Harley was born.  They had three daughters, Deneen, JoAnn, and Jackie.  The girls attended Enderlin Public School where Harley served on the School Board for many years.  Harley also served on the board of Cass Rural Water and Cass County Electric.  Harley was instrumental in extending the water system to rural Cass County.  Evie Hansen passed away on October 8, 1982.  On December 22, 1989, Harley married Goldie Johnson and was blessed with two additional family members Julie and Hoyt.  Harley and Goldie farmed together and lived on the family farm at rural Fingal, ND.  In 2000, Harley and Goldie moved to Tower City, ND, and continued to farm until 2008.  Harley never stopped being a farmer though, he made numerous trips to the farm every week to check the crop, help with anything he was asked to do, and talk with his neighbors and friends.  In September of 2019, Harley and Goldie moved to Riverview Assisted Living in Fargo, ND
Harley loved to farm and was a very progressive farmer, not afraid to try new things and learn if or how they could work to optimize his farming operation.  Harley was very mechanically inclined which proved very helpful in keeping their equipment operating.  After he was not actively farming anymore, he enjoyed buying and selling used equipment and parts.  He especially enjoyed the trips to check out his potential purchase, which usually included a stop for pie and coffee along the way.  Each winter Harley took on a new project to build something in his shop including a heating system that was fueled by used equipment oil, a lawn mower he affectionately named "Gold" bug, and his Cadillac with a diesel Mitsubishi engine.
Harley loved to visit with anyone and everyone, share his stories and listen to their stories.  He drove his pickup to have coffee every morning, and sometimes multiple times a day, only missing those days when the weather made his trips impossible.  Harley had a great memory and often shared historical information with his family and friends.  He was an avid reader of magazines, books, and the beloved "greensheet".  He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Two things he loved a great deal were visits from family or friends, especially when they included a drive and a stop at the Dairy Queen and having his family, especially grandsons and son in laws, help him with one of his many projects.
Harley is survived by his wife, Goldie of Fargo, ND; three daughters, Deneen (Jim) Gilmour of Fargo, ND, JoAnn (Tim) Fazekas of Goodyear, AZ, and Jackie (Ron) Nohr of Hinton, IA; two stepchildren, Julie (Steve) Boe of Hayward, WI, and Hoyt (Tracie) Johnson of Milwaukee, WI.  Ten grandchildren Jared Gilmour, Brie Gilmour, Bret Gilmour, Darren (Kasara) Klinger, Adrienne (Brennen) Gibson, Nathan (Jess) Fazekas, Bryce (Kelsey) Fazekas, Charlie Nohr, Elizabeth Nohr, Rachel Bjornson, Adam Boe, Derrick Boe, Chantel, Nachelle (Harrison) McCallister, Destiny Long.  Eight great-grandchildren Lexi and Jada Klinger, Evie Gibson, Kayla, Greta and Tom Fazekas, Taryn Savre and Brooks Neisen.  Sisters Lucille Winkler, Ardelle Nordbo and Charlene Langness and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made to the Maple Valley or Enderlin Dollars for Scholars scholarship fund. www.maplevalley.dollarsforscholars.org. www.enderlin.dollarsforscholars.org.
