Mavis Marie (Loibl) Loendorf, 88, of Valley City, ND, was reunited with the love of her life in heaven on October 20, 2025. She came into the world on December 17, 1936, and grew up in Fingal, ND. She was the only daughter of Olga (Christianson) and Steven Loibl and adored her two brothers, Eldy (Marlys) and Maynard (Rita).
Joe was the love of her life. Together they created a family and a cherished life on the farm. She was the matriarch the Loendorf family was built upon, emanating strength and her notorious ability to bounce back. She and Joe raised four strong and loving daughters: Diana (Jeff VanRay), Pam, Patty (Kim Wiest), and Janelle (Rob Schaper). She relished visits from her girls, nine grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren, always ready to set out scotcharoos and any other homemade goodies you craved.
Mavis and Joe got the privilege of growing old together and had a 63-year marriage. They were salt of the earth but had an adventurous side exploring Europe and going on snowmobiling trips in retirement. They spent 20+ years enjoying the warmth of Arizona winters and friends and family would often make trips down south to spend time with them, biking or riding the golf cart around their community. She and Joe could often be found socializing around a game of Pinochle. They created a lifetime of memories and love, and most enjoyed watching generations of their family grow.
Mavis was small but mighty, always stylish and put-together. She shared her loyalty, hospitality, and generosity with those around her. Never sitting still for too long, she spent eight decades feeding her family, farm workers, and friends. There was always a stocked fridge, warm pot of coffee, and honest conversation. There was nothing better than a night around the table playing games, hearing stories, and getting ribbed by Mavis after she won at cards. She created an environment of warmth that encouraged you to gab, sip your drink slow and perhaps unbutton your pants after too many homemade goodies.
Her full table, candor, and laughter will be deeply missed. Her ability to connect us, undoubtedly leaves a hole in our family and in the lives of those that called her a friend. How grateful we are to have loved and been loved by her for so many years.
The celebration of Mavis's life will be on Monday October 27, 2025, at 10:30am in St. Catherine's Church in Valley City with visitation one-hour prior and lunch after. Burial will be in the ND Veteran's Cemetery in Mandan on October 27th at 3pm. The funeral service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with her obituary on her tribute page at
www.lerudmathias.com. An online guestbook is available there as well.
