Michael Carpenter Obituary

Michael David Carpenter, 39, Bismarck, ND died Tuesday February 15, 2022 at his home in Bismarck.
Michael was born June 27, 1982 in Jamestown, ND, the son of Jeffrey and Anne (Grohnke) Carpenter. He moved to Valley City, ND and lived with his Dad and Step-Mom, Jeffrey and Debra (Baumgartner) Carpenter, and attended school within the Valley City Public School system. Michael graduated from Valley City High School in 2001 and later attended Rasmussen Business College where he received his BS degree in business.
A love of sports best describes Mike, and he played T-ball and baseball as a youth and also attended several basketball camps. He played basketball in elementary, Junior High and part of his Senior High years. The NDSU Bison, the MN Vikings and MN Twins were Mike's favorite teams and he could always be found cheering them on. Mike also had a love for music and was a member of the Valley City High School choir and really enjoyed the annual Café Concert.
Mike became a member of St. Catherine Church in Valley City in his 9th grade year, coming into the church with his Step-Grandfather, John Baumgartner, as his sponsor. Mike served as an altar boy through the years and enjoyed donating time at various fundraisers at the church and school. He had a giving heart and was happiest sharing his talents.
For employment, Mike worked during his Junior High and Senior High School years at Market Place Foods in Valley City and made numerous lifelong friends. In later years he worked in Jamestown and Fargo/Moorhead at various jobs and lately was manager at the Dollar Tree in Bismarck. Mike was a hard worker and anyone was lucky to have him as an employee or as a boss. He took pride in what he did and it showed.
To know Mike was to love him. He was an excellent big brother and took each of his siblings under his wing mentoring and loving them. There isn't anything Mike wouldn't do if you asked him, and he did it with a smile on his face and did it well. Once you met Mike, you were his friend. The number of people that reached out to the family following his death, shows how very much he was loved. He will be remembered for his quick wit and caring heart. Mike is loved and is so missed already, but knowing he is reunited with his dad, brings the family comfort.
He is survived by his Mother, Anne Hovland, Wimbledon, ND; 5 Siblings, Chris Carpenter, Wimbledon, ND, Cally Carpenter and Chase Carpenter, Valley City, ND, Tanner Hovland, Ashland, WI, Tessa (Travis) Humphrey, Lincoln, ND; 4 Nieces, Matesi and Marleigh Carpenter, Wimbledon, ND, and Emily and Elleah Humphrey, Lincoln, ND; Grandmothers, Jeanette Larson, Valley City, ND and Charlotte Grohnke, Jamestown, ND; ex Sister-in-Law, Allie Carpenter, Wimbledon, ND; ex Step-Mother, Debby Neseth, ex Step-Father, Tom Hovland, ex Step-Grandfather, John Baumgartner, all of Valley City, ND; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and special friend Zoe.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Jeffrey Carpenter, his Grandfathers, Robert Grohnke and Douglas Carpenter, ex Step-Grandparents Marianne Baumgartner and Keith & Wanda Hovland, an Uncle, Kelly Carpenter and an ex Step-Uncle, Timothy Hovland.
