Rialto - Rosetta "Rose"
Margie Taylor (née Keister), 98, of Claremont, California, passed away peacefully on October 18,
2024.
Born on September 12, 1926, in Valley City, North Dakota, to Otto Fred and Margie Keister
(née Howlett), Rose was raised on the family farm in Ashtabula Township near Rogers, North
Dakota. She attended Logan Country School and graduated from Valley City High School in
1944. She cherished her memories of farm life and enjoyed dancing and roller skating. After
high school, she worked as a waitress at Ernie's Café in the Carlson Bros. building.
In 1944, Rose married Alex Sadek, and they planned to farm near Tower City. After Alex's
tragic passing in 1946, Rose dealt with her grief by visiting California with her friend Inez Cresap.
The following year, she and her friend Geneva Colville moved permanently to Pomona, California,
joining many relatives who had relocated from Valley City.
In 1949, Rose married Gerald Taylor. They raised four children together: Vicki, Gerald Jr., Steve,
and Laurie. The family enjoyed annual camping trips throughout the United States, often visiting
Rose's sister, Myrt Undem, on her farm in Rogers. The Taylors lived in Pomona for many years,
and after Gerald's retirement, they moved to Rialto, where they joined many of Gerald's siblings
and Rose's sister, Myrt, in the same senior park.
Rose will be remembered for the vibrant and full life she led.
Her passion for gardening created beauty around her, while her love of travel filled her years with new
experiences. A woman of strong and committed faith, she was an active and beloved member of
her church. Her special affection for cats and birds was reflected in the collections she so lovingly
displayed in her home. The camaraderie of the Gabby Gourmets, a women's club she helped charter
over 65 years ago, was a cherished part of her life. Above all, her greatest joy was her family,
and she loved nothing more than spending time with them and celebrating the growth of her clan
with the arrival of new grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Gerald, who passed away in 2023. She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren, and
four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces, including her sister
Myrt's daughter, Marlene, with whom she was especially close.
A burial service was held at the
National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
