Bert Stevens passed away in the early hours of October 25, 2008, at his home in Lakeside, CA, where he had relocated in 2004. He was initially diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2001. When the cancer re-occurred the decision was made to relocate in San Diego area where his daughter lived.
Bert was born in Shreveport, LA, on February 19, 1929, and raised in Weed, CA. He lived in Miranda for about 50 years where he was active in community affairs, serving as Fire Chief and on the Board of MCSD and as director.
Bert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret and their three children, Bobbie Tucker, Margie Palmer and Michael Stevens, who were raised in Miranda. Bobbie preceded him in death. Bert is also survived by Bobbie’s family, her husband Harlan Tucker; their sons, Scott Tucker and his wife Deanna, their son Aaron; Shawn Tucker and his wife Cristy and their children, Colt, Emily and Cameron; Margie’s husband Micheal, and their sons, Cort, Mike and Jessie Palmer.
When the decision was made to move, the town of Miranda turned out in force to wish him farewell. At that picnic he told all his friends good-bye and that was all the formal service he ever wanted. A private service will be held later when he is laid to rest beside his daughter in Garberville, at a time when the family can be present.
If so desired, a donation can be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Bobbie Tucker Scholarship Fund at South Ford High School. Please send donations to the Southern Humboldt School Foundation, P.O. Box 650, Miranda, CA 95553.

Dear Margaret & Family,
We are grieving with you over the loss of one of the greatest guys who ever lived. We are proud to say we were friends of his for many years. The town of Miranda was lucky to have him around so many years to take care of their utilities.
Being a logger, I was always inspired by the way he ran his trucking business. Our thoughts & prayers are with you all.

I remember Bert from a long time ago. My parents (Bud & Hazel Wenz)now deceased, were very good friend's of Bert and Margaret. They always spoke of his great ability to tell jokes and his devotion to his family. I'm sure they will run into each other in the here after and have a good laugh talking about Good Ole Garberville. My condolences to your family. You have many many friends that will be there for you in your time of need.
