Carl Wood Obituary

Carl James Wood

Carl James Wood, born July 6, 1960, passed away on Langkawi Island, Malaysia on July 17th, 2022. He truly loved Langkawi and its people; he will be interred there. As he was being transported from Langkawi Island to the mainland for cremation, 2 pods of dolphins escorted his boat! We are told that is not common in that area and we view that as a tribute to the true heart that was Carl.
Carl attended school at St. Bernard's Elementary in Eureka, CA and Priest River High School in Priest River, Idaho.
After a very fulfilling career with Matheson Trucking, he went to the Philippines to assist his brother Jon in building and developing the Kayla A Beach Resort on Bohol. While living there, he traveled and discovered many other parts of the world, namely Langkawi Island in Malaysia which later became his home and his "forever happy place." He made many great friends in his travels; they mourn with us.
Carl is survived by his mother Genie Wood, brother Jon (Joy), sisters Julie Williams (Bob), Jeannie Wood Steele (Mike), Mary Wood (John Stanton), sister-in-law Nonette Wood, Aunt Kathy Field, Uncle Greg Jernigan, cousins Kevin and Gary Day, Jordana and Danny Willett, Cheryl Adamo, step-son Patrick Roskell and numerous nieces and nephews not to mention the many friends across the world and the children of Langkawi who knew him as Santa Claus. He leaves behind his very significant other, Daisy Joy Caderao in Langkawi, whom he loved dearly. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Jack Wood, niece Kayla Wood, brother Craig in 2020, grandmother Cloella Jernigan, Uncle Larry Day and Aunt Lynn Abbott.
"Mom, I wish I could say something to help you with your friend's passing. What I can say is how I feel about losing someone so close. Nothing will make me miss them less. But knowing that they are with me always is very comforting. I can still talk to them. I can still feel their presence because I have been blessed with them being a part of my life. Remembering how it felt to be with them. The pleasant memories are something no one can take from me. No one is ever gone until they are forgotten. They will live on, with me, for the rest of my life. It is never too late to celebrate the life they shared with us." ~Written by Carl just 2 months before he passed

Carl and I went to Franklin Elementary School and in the third grade we both liked the same girl. Lol She was a pretty blonde haired girl named ( Laura McLaughlin ) Carl and I wanted to know where she lived, but were afraid to ask her. So each day after school we would follow her home, only we would stop at hwy 101 crossing so that she would not spot us ? Well we would lose her by the time we crossed. We were late coming home from school each day. Well one day I did have to stay after school, so Carl crossed hwy 101 first to see where she goes ? She lived on the corner in a white house with a great big tree in front. I met Carl and we went to her house and met her mother and let her know we liked her daughter. She loved both of us and Laura would trade off each day liking both of us. Well our mothers wanted to know why we were late coming home so many times ? Well we lied and got caught, as our mothers called the school and each other ! Carl and I both got spankings for that ! His family always reminded me of the Kennedy's when I got older. They were so proper ! I will always remember him as my good friend back so long ago. Gone too soon my friend !

Not a time when I did not know the wood family having grown up with the kids since 1970. I am truly at a loss of my buddies Carl and Craig. I will always think of the with great love and respect. Leave me a seat at the table, I will soon be there for the party.
