Carolyn Bandy Obituary

Carolyn Doreen (Griswold) Bandy left this "mortal coil" on Tuesday September 23, 2014 at 8:29 pm. She leaves behind her precious children and extended family: son Alan and Kim Bandy, and daughter Barbara and Julie Bandy-Rosado, Ellen Brotman-Sawyer, grandchildren: Alexander Bandy- Brotman (grandson) Eun Hye Brotman; great -granddaughters: Lani Lee and Reina Lee Brotman, her four siblings Earl Griswold, Phyllis Sollers, Elaine Griswold, Bruce Griswold, and her ex-husband Andy Clay Bandy and his mother Bernice, her best "garage sale" partner. Carolyn (and her twin Marilyn 1941-2009) was born in Bremerton, WA to Nellie (Gadue) Goodrich and Carl Griswold. As a "Navy brat" her family settled in Arcata, CA where she graduated from Arcata High School. While working at the Arcata Movie Theatre she met her co-worker/husband Andy Bandy who enlisted in the Navy. This brought them to San Diego where her daughter Barbara was born. Divorced in 1969 she spent the next 27 years as a hair dresser at Rosemary's Hair Fashions while raising her children. Carolyn quit her job of 27 years and moved back up North to finish her degree in Education from Humboldt State University. After her father Carl and her sister June Mayberry passed, she moved to the Bay Area to live and work with her daughter at California Shakespeare Festival (Orinda) Oberlin Dance Company (San Francisco). During this time Carolyn also worked as a substitute teacher in Solano County. Always wanting to keep busy she had a smattering of odd jobs at the Missouri Street Theatre, Napa Repertory Theatre, Contra Costa Musical Theatre, and Jarvis Conservatory Theatre, Old Town Furniture in Vacaville and the Candle Light Inn in Napa. At the age of 64 she was forced to retire when diagnosed with end stage renal failure. Her joys for the past nine years have been gardening, her animals, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She died surrounded by light and love and will be truly missed. In honor of Carolyn's life those who wish can either donate to the ASPCA or plant a redwood in her name. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com and click on obits.
