Connie Coeur Leo

Connie Leo Obituary

Connie Coeur Leo Connie a Eureka native, died Sunday June 22 following a long illness of COPD and lung cancer. Born March 24, 1946 Connie attended Marshall Grammar School and was a graduate of Eureka High School where she was a straight "A" student. This enabled her to enter Cal-Berkeley with honors in the fall. This was also a time when college campuses were in total rebellion regarding the Vietnam War. Cal-Berkeley was in turmoil led by an anti-war radical Mario Savio. Savio and his followers had a number of freshman and younger students half scared causing them to leave Cal. Connie returned to Eureka and took a job with Bell-Telephone and Telegraph. About this time she also married an old boyfriend Brian Lee, Tracy's father. Connie retired from Bell-Telephone as an assistant manager in 1987 the only job she ever had. Volunteering to help with the younger children at Washington Elementary School in retirement gave her a great deal of pleasure. However, the real pleasure and enjoyment came from watching her two grandsons Tanner and Trevor Bell grow up never missing an athletic event they may be involved in. Connie took considerable pride in her garden never a blade of grass out of place, her flower beds immaculate and hedges neatly clipped. Her home was just like her garden, not a thing out of place and spotless thru-out. Connie wouldn't take her car out of the garage on a rainy day if she could avoid it. That meant the car would have to be washed before returning to the garage. Connie leaves her daughter Tracy and husband Chris of Eureka, her grandson's Trevor and Tanner Bell of Eureka, her father Gerry Coeur and wife Georgann of Bayside, her brother Jeff Coeur and wife Ann of Rancho Murieta and a sister Marcia of Atlanta, Georgia plus numerous cousins throughout the area. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice or an area of the donor's choice. At Connie's request there will be no funeral service. Gerald, & yours: I am saddened by your loss. I had known Connie Ann since she was 4 yrs. old, & saw her about 12 yrs. ago while shopping. I thought she was her mom, Dorothy, who was my very close friend for many, many years - she was her mom's image!! We enjoyed a lovely conversation, & Connie left me quite impressed as a wonderful, caring, human being. You are all on my prayer list, forever.

Connie was a wonderful lady and will truly be missed. We were friends at Washington Elementary School and in the same Campfire group. I will always remember the fun our Campfire group had at Camp Kimtu that summer after fifth grade. Prayers are sent to her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. May she rest in peace.

To the family of Connie, Although I knew she would leave us soon it is still hard to comprehend. She wouldn't be pleased that I was singing her praises but I feel compelled to inform those who knew her how she faced her situation. It was on her birthday that I called and she told me the sad news. Right away she said she was fine with it wanting to make me comfortable. She also said it was no secret. It was hard to know what to say but she didn't skip a beat telling me all about Hospice coming and the details of her new routine. She was as upbeat as ever and never changed that tone with each call. She told me everything was arranged for when she couldn't be home any longer...just like Connie to not want to put anyone out, especially Tracy and family. Over the years we'd discuss how I liked crosswords and she Sudoku. When we last spoke she was again telling me the technical part on how to work the numbers as I saying it was very frustrating. I will never get over how she faced death with such dignity and acceptance. It was never about her, she was as unselfish as they come. She knew her idiosyncrasies when it came to cleanliness and neatness with the remark,"you know how I am", as she snickered. I'm feeling a big void as I know others are too. She was quiet and unassuming but she was a genuinely good person. Although we didn't see each other a lot we kept in touch. I'll miss knowing she's not with us but she very much left her mark with me. You're all in my thoughts at this time, I wish for you the strength to get though the loss of your Connie. With heartfelt sympathy, Joan Lee
