Dorothy Schuler Obituary

October 21, 1939- September 23, 2011 Dorothy Inez Schuler, 72, passed away on September 23, 2011, at her home in McKinleyville, California. She was born in Sanborn, Nebraska to Lewis and Alma Weed. They moved to California when she was eight years and she attended Arcata schools. She graduated from Arcata High School in the class of 1958. She married Douglas Schuler in 1958 and raised 5 children; Dorrie, Dawn, Daphne, Doug Jr. and Dana. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her large family very much; they were the most important thing in her life. She held various jobs in the area, the last being Executive Housekeeper at General Hospital, before sickness and pain forced her to retire at an early age. She was involved in various civic organizations. Dorothy was very instrumental in the early days of the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce. She helped as an early founder of the Pony Express Days in McKinleyville. Dorothy worked many hours to establish bridle trails there and worked to bring signal lights to Central Avenue. In later years she had a business breeding and raising parrots. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gans, Mad River Home Health and Hospice of Humboldt. If you wish to make a donation in Dorothy's name, the family requests donations to Miranda's Rescue. from Joy, Jill and myself, we are very sorry to hear that our cousin dorothy passed away. i will always remember her best when we used to come for visits in the summer with our mom and dad. so many fun stories were told about how crazy and fun dorothy was. i remember her laugh as well as lou and inez's when they would talk about the jokes that she would play. i'm sure she is still playing jokes on them all in heaven.
