ELANORE SCHMITT DAVIES

Elanore Louise Davies September 12, 1937 - November 30, 2018 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we share the loss of Elanore Louise Davies - Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and very special friend on November 30, 2018, in Eureka, California. Elanore Schmitt Davies ("Ellie" to her friends - Gramma to her family) was born on September 12th, 1937 in Coos Bay, Oregon, to Mildred and Jacob Schmitt. She moved to Arcata in 1951, and graduated from Arcata High School in 1955. During that time she met the love of her life, Jerry Davies, in "the back of the band room" while playing the alto clarinet. They certainly made beautiful music together, with a love that led to a lifelong marriage in 1956. In 1963, with the help of Ellie's father, Ellie and Jerry built their home in Jacoby Creek, where they ultimately raised their four children. In 1990, they built and moved into their Willow Creek retirement home, where Ellie enjoyed her passions for baking, cooking in general, canning, and gardening. Since 2009, Ellie and her husband have lived close to family in Eureka. In her last moments on earth, she was surrounded by her family. Along with Jerry, she leaves behind her four children: Sandra Lane (Kevin), Karen Lorenzo (Tim), Jean Batini (Charley), and Eric Davies (Amy); as well as 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Ellie will be most fondly remembered for her incredible love for her family, her quick wit and sense of humor, and her generous hospitality toward all in her circle - whether shared through her fabulous cooking or expressed through her many other gifts. Her family gatherings always included her leading a game of cards or dominos around the kitchen table. Each month she looked forward to meeting her girlfriends for bridge. She will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched in her eighty-one years. Services will be held at 11 am on Saturday Dec. 8th at Sacred Heart Church, located 2065 Myrtle Ave, Eureka. Afterwards, close friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate her life at the home of her daughter. The service will be followed later by a private interment to rest with her mother and father in Portland, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions be made to Adoption Horizons, Sequoia Humane Society, Soroptimist Intl. or charity of your choice.
