Frank Provence Obituary

Frank "Jiggs" Provence Jr. Our father, Frank "Jiggs" Provence Jr., passed from this life on Friday, November 27th, 2009. He was 88 yrs old born to Frank Provence Sr. and Essie Provence on June 26, 1921 in De Queen, Arkansas. His father was a blacksmith and ran a big shop during the depression and his mother was a homemaker who died when dad was only 8 yrs old. Dad always said his mother taught him all of the basics about how one should conduct ones life before she died. His mom taught him to be kind to all especially those down on their luck and his father taught him how to be a hard worker and to always do a job the very best you can. He served our country in World War II in the US Army and won a medal for Good Conduct and a Purple Heart. He was married to his first wife, Lorene Provence, and they had two children. George and Mary Lee. Shortly after returning from the service he married our mother, Lorene Winship Provence, and had four more children Lora, Kenny, Clem and Emily. He and Lorene moved to California shortly after their marriage and dad worked for years in many of the local mills finally settling at Georgia Pacific pulp mill and retiring from Louisiana Pacific pulp mill. All who knew our dad would tell you what a talented fabricator and millwright he was. And he was so much more than that. He always had some kind of a project going. From his device to stretch his pants to boats and his dune buggies to wood stoves, his ability to create anything was pure genius. And he always had a sly smile on his face that made you wonder what he knew that you didn't. And anyone that knew him knew he was up to something. And if he was your friend you could count on that no matter what. Dad was preceded in death by his parents Frank Sr. and Essie Provence, sisters Edith, Etheline and Evelyn, brother Jack, children George Provence, Mary Lee, and Clem Provence. He is survived by his wife of 60 yrs Lorene Provence, Children Lora Toupin, Ken Provence, Emi!y Scoles and husband David, and daughter in law Jean Provence, Grandchildren Jerry Locker jr and wife Stephanie, Sherry Whitchurch and husband Brian, Becky, Debbie, and Jessica Provence, Jennifer Campbell and husband Rodney, Stephanie Wasson, John Laudenschlager jr, Suzanna Laudenschlager, Mercedes Scoles, Angie Little, and Brian Provence. Great Grandchildren Carrie, Liberty, Daly, Nakina ,Tylynne, Austin, Taylor, Alex, Amy, Dustin, Maddy, and Brayden Dad fought a hard battle with Leukemia and wishes to thank Hospice and all of this docors for all of their help. He had one extra special friend that was there every day to help take care of him and take him for rides and do anything he needed done. We all would like to thank Jeff Clark and his daughter Kathy for always being his extra special friends. We couldn't do it without you. And a very special thanks to all of our Hospice workers. They do so much for their patients and are so kind and helpful to the families they help. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice. At dad's request, there will be no funeral. He would want you to remember something fun you did with him or some prank he pulled on you. Stop in sometime when you are at Ruth lake and say hi some of us will be there. Lorene,
Jiggs was the best friend that anyone could ever hope to have. We spent so many good times together Spike, Bo-bo, KC, and Sammy were always a joy. (Except when we would have to go back and get them after leaving them in the woods). Grading the road at 2 in the morning, exploring the roads around Ruth. The Dune Buggies, with little Jerry asleep in the back. The weekends with John and Jerry with us from the time they could walk. Cutting wood, in the snow, in the rain, sitting on the mountain waiting for first light, so we could cut more wood. Hearing about what he did in the Army. His mother and father and how they had done such a good job of teaching him right and wrong.
I think the one thing that impressed me the most was his story about seeing you for the first time, and thinking you were the cutest thing he had ever seen. The many times he would tell me that without you he would have nothing. You were his rock, his only love.

Lorene Provence & Family -
My sincere condolences. I had to write because I remember when I built Jiggs’ garage. Mid-January, temperature about 30 degrees. We were pouring a concrete floor and apron. Started in mid-afternoon and concrete would not set up because of cold weather. Well, anyway, Jiggs brought out a bottle of E & J Brandy that kept me pretty warm but would do nothing for the concrete. About 9:00 pm, Jiggs brought out another bottle and I don’t remember much after that. My wife said I got home about 11:30 or 12:00. The concrete turned out OK, and I was back on solid food a couple days later. Frank was the kind of a man you liked right away.
We are diminished. God Bless.

Dear Provence Family, My deepest sympathies to you all. Jiggs was such a happy, fun loving man. We met for the first time at my sisters home (Mary Lee Provence). He always had a smile on his face and a dance in his step. I wish our time spent together had been longer. I will miss you. God Bless, Wava Armatha, (Mary Lorene's daughter).

Jiggs Family: So very sorry to hear of Jiggs passing. I was forturnate to know him for about 40 years, at the Pulp Mill, Union Hall and coffee after he retired. Jiggs was one of the most liked and respected men that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with him. I know he will be well missed by family and friends. Best wishes,

Dear Lorraine and family:

I just read Jigg's notice with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face. So many years to reflect on about our dear friend, too many to list but just know that Jiggs was our very special friend. Tom and I always looked forward to Jiggs and Jeffs visits when we lived up on the Mad River and they would always take time to stop by on thier way up to their place. The dinners we shared with him and you Lorraine. What a wonderful loving couple you were. I was talking with Barbara and she too thought back to all the fun times she and Albert had with you two at the rodeo dances. It won't be the same coming back there with out seeing that wonderful smile and getting that so special hug that Jiggs always had for me.

All I can say is God has a very special Angel in heaven and we have one looking down on all of us with oh so much love. God bless each of you and know that our prayers and thoughts are with you now and always.

Love always,
Tom and Vivian
