Fred Ottoson Obituary

Fred M. Ottoson Fred passed away February 25, 2010 at the age of 87. He was born in Comptche, California on October 28, 1922, to Dorothy and Jense Ottoson. He spent his early life on the family ranch in Comptche until he was drafted into WWII. He served in the 11th Airborne as a Paratrooper in the South Pacific and received a Bronze Star. Fred returned to Fort Bragg after the war where he met and married Marjorie Davis. They celebrated 62 years together. He drove propane truck, pulled lumber on the green chain for Union Lumber Company, pounded nails on the construction crew for Boise Cascade and retired from Georgia Pacific as a crane operator in 1982. Fred spent many happy times at the homestead cabin at Showers Pass here in Humboldt County. Fred was an expert marksman and he always looked forward to deer season each year. He bagged his last buck at age 84. He was proud to have shown every family member how to skin a buck the right way. We are his family: Marjorie Ottoson of Fort Bragg; Kay, Joe and Ross Todrzak of Vaughn, Washington, Naomi Todrzak of Long Beach; Sally Ottoson and Jonah Goldenberg of Fort Bragg; Joan and Lee Woodcock of Fortuna; Gary, Amy, Ben and Sam Lawson of Santa Rosa; Dave Lipscomb of Eugene, Oregon. He was predeceased by his Grandson Tim Lawson. A private family gathering is planned for later in the spring with inurnment at Ocean View Cemetery in Fort Bragg. Fred was a favorite customer to me at Leons Car Care Center. I can't remember when I met him, but I knew he was special. We talked about our love of Fort Bragg. There were stories about deer hunting and his daugters wine making. It is because of peaple like Fred that I enjoy my job. May you find deer to hunt in heaven Fred. I will always remember you. Jf
