Georgie Mowrey of Garberville passed away on October 5, 2005, as a result of injuries she sustained in a vehicle accident on September 25, 2005. She passed away quietly at her home with her loved ones and friends surrounding her.
Georgie was born on June 23, 1957, in Redwood City, California. She and her sister Linda lived with their father in San Francisco. They moved to Leggett, California, where she spent most of her early life, and graduated from Leggett Valley High School. It was here that she met her husband Dan, and they were married in Leggett in 1978. After spending some time in Point Arena, California, where Dan was stationed with the Department of Forestry, they were transferred to the Garberville area. Georgie worked in the early years of the Mateel Community Center, then worked over twenty years at Garberville-Redway Veterinary Clinic. She was working there at the time of her accident. Georgie loved animals and this was a heaven-sent job for her.
Georgie and Dan enjoyed many outdoor activities together. Georgie often out fished Dan and accompanied him on many of his hunting expeditions. Their travels took them on many exciting adventures, exploring the tips of Mexico up to the far reaches of British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains.
Georgie is survived by loving husband, Dan; her brother-in-law, Mark Mowrey of Fortuna and his wife Linda; nephews, Donald Mowrey of Las Vegas and Jim Mowrey of Fortuna; her mother-in-law, Betty Barton and her husband Bill of Eureka; her nieces, Stephanie Christiansen of Redwood Valley and Brenda Cano of Leggett; along with numerous great nieces and nephews. Also surviving Georgie are many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda and her father, Mel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be sent to Heart of the Redwoods Community Hospice, 464 Maple Lane, Garberville, CA.
A memorial and potluck will be held at The Community Park on Sprowel Creek Road in Garberville on Saturday, October 15th, from 12:00 to 5:00 pm. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided and bar-b-qued. Please bring your favorite side dish to share with your friends. Georgie said “Bring your dogs!!”

Dear Dan, It has been thirty years since I've talked to you and Georgie, I was so sad to hear about everything. I graduated Leggett Valley High with Georgie and the other 12 of us. She was always so much fun we had a blast that whole senior year I know you were there too for alot of that fun! I remember all the campfires at our home on the mountain and all the wonderful times we had at the river. I was so excited all those years ago when I heard you two got married and my Mother would always tell me about Georgie when she visited the Pet Hosp. Just know Dan that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time as well as my brother Steven's. Take care and know that we will never forget those wonderful times we all shared as youth together! Your Friend Always, Leslie (Orton) Bishop
