Irene McKenzie of McKinleyville, California, died peacefully December 5, 2008, at Eureka Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with her brother Murrel and his wife Linda at her side.
Irene was born April 30, 1920, in Carvey, Oklahoma, and after living in Missouri for several years she moved to California with her 3 oldest sons. She was a mother, homemaker and poet. Her inspirational poems are treasured by her family and friends.
Irene is survived by her 5 children, Larry, Dan (Noreen), Lloyd (Mary), Lonny (Linda) and LaDonna Chalmers (Stan). She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Burniece Ring, Virginia Rodgers, Ellen Jacobson, Murrel Gazaway and Roy Gazaway; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Almos Gazaway, Bessie Gazaway Ball; stepfather, Lee Ball; sisters, Lehigh Houston and Mary Johnson.
Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday December 15, 2008, at 1:00pm at Paul’s Chapel, Arcata, California. A visitation will be from 10:00am to 1:00pm on December 15, 2008.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caring staff at Eureka Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Hospice of Humboldt who were instrumental in making Irene’s last months pleasant and comfortable.
Donations in Irene’s name can be made to Hospice of Humboldt, 2010 Myrtle Avenue, Eureka, CA 95501 or your favorite charity.
Arrangements are under the care of Paul’s Chapel, Arcata, CA.

You will be MISSED Mother by all that came in contact with you! Brother Ray presented an excellent Service for you and it touched our souls! Your whole Family was present expressing our Love and Loss of Our Mother, Friend, and Confidant! You are in His Presence now so I know you are rejoicing with Him! 'Til We meet AGAIN!!! !!

My heartfelt sympathies. I know how hard it is to lose your mom. I hope that in time you're able to find comfort in all the wonderful memories you have of her. You & I were probably responsible for most of her grey hairs, and I know that I have many fond memories of your mom.
