Larry Miller, 68, passed away with his loving wife, Jeri Miller, and his little sister, Ivey Bryant Bettis, by his side, on December 9, 2008, in Fortuna, California. He was born on October 19, 1940, in Durham, North Carolina.
Larry went to Eureka High School and was of the class of 1959. Every 5 years there was a class reunion and Larry didn’t miss one.
The Heaps car club was one of his passions. Then came dirt bike racing and the thrill of winning, competition, and meeting great guys.
On December 13, 1965, Larry joined the Eureka Mission Linen family and in a short time he was hooked on everything the company stood for. At this time Larry was asked to make a choice between dirt bike racing and Mission Linen. He had crashed several times and couldn’t perform his work duties. There was only one choice, as he had a little girl to support, so he sold his bike and hung up his leathers. After a few years he was transferred to the Santa Cruz Plant and then on to the Salinas Plant as General Manager. He retired after 35 years of service.
Larry and Jeri made trips back to Salinas to see friends and to stop by Mission Linen to say hello to all the employees. The employees would give him a hug and tell him, “We sure miss your walk through the plant each morning saying hello to each of us.” He knew them all on a first name basis. When new employees were hired they were told he wasn’t Mr. Miller, Sir, or Boss; he was Larry! He gave his employees the credit for the recognition and awards received over the years.
One can’t forget his interest in old cars. While in Salinas he was on the Cherry’s Jubilee committee for ten years, as well as belong to the Road Angels Car Club. After moving to Fortuna, Larry and Jeri joined the Redwood Vintage Rods and another family of friends was made. They travelled to car shows with friends Gene and Joyce Davenport and George and Marla Smoker.
Larry had a great smile and sense of humor. His quick wit resulted in his aliases, “Stickman”, “Noodle Legs” and “Scary Larry”.
He loved his family and church family very much.
Larry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Jeri miller of Fortuna, California; sister Ivey (Rich) Bryant Bettis of Fortuna, CA; daughters Tohnia Miller of San Diego, CA, and Nina (Peter) Neill of Boulder, Colorado; step-daughters Chrissy (John) Strong, Jackie (John) Mansfield, and Kathy Napolitano, all of Idaho; grandchildren Nicole (Scott) Taylor (nicknamed Little Grasshopper by her Grandpa), Deanne (Chris) Bailey (known as Casper), Brad and Ryker Mansfield of Idaho, Jordan, Philip and Ben Neill of Colorado; five great-granddaughters; niece Karen (Nolan) Hawkins of Redding, CA; nephews Larry and Todd (Shawna) Bryant of Fortuna; many great-nieces and nephews; and special friends Dennis and Mary Pieper of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and Terry and Bronda Sims of Arizona.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olkin, the Redwood Memorial Hospital staff and the ICU staff for the loving care they gave Larry. Thanks to Patti at Pierce Mortuary and friends and neighbors for their support.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Larry on January 17, 2009, from 11-3, at the Ingomar Club, 143 M Street, Eureka, CA.
Larry’s family requests that in lieu of flowers and cards please make donations to: Rogers Memorial Hospital Foundation, Attention: Larry Miller Memorial Fund, 34700 Valley Rd., Oconomowoc, WI 53066. All gifts will go to help people who suffer from eating disorders as Larry did.

We will miss Larry's warm smile as he peered over our mutual backyard fence. Bev, just knows that he really didn't throw rocks at the birds at her feeders.
Remember, we are just over the fence if you need anything.

Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

I was very surprised to see that Larry Miller had passed away. I have good memories of Larry with Joe Fannucchi and Mike Coy at their locker next to mine....they were always laughing and happy...and Larry was always so nice at the reunions...we will miss him next summer at the 50th Reunion of EHS. My sympathy goes out to his wife, sister and family.

Jeri and family and friends
It never failed that Larry would seek me out when I was walking among the great Street Rods on display in Fortuna to renew old memories from the Way Back Machine from the days of the Heaps, Redwood Kings and the Nor Cal Slicks of which I was a member with my Chevy powered 40 Ford and a young bride. We would cruise by the Heaps Club House aka The Bates Garage on Pine Hill envious because I was working on my Rods in the dirt of Spruce and E.
I don't remember the year but Larry became my Mission Linen guy and we had many battles over the price of cleaning which my son Dale does to this day. Larry always stopped by when he was in Eureka after he transferred to another plant and I was so proud of him when the company gave him his own plant to manage.
I know of several members of the Heaps who have taken their last Checkered Flag. Larry Miller, Bob Grey, Pete Grey, Russ Hil, Bennie Carrol and his brother Donnie Carrol passed away last week. Then there is Mel Sample who survived a near death heart attack four weeks ago because there were people there to start CPR and revive him so he could have bypass surgery.
Larry confided in me in 2007 he had this affliction and in 2008 he brought me up to date on his health. Larry has a Sweet Chariot in the form of a 1949 Olds Coupe to carry him on his last Rod Run to Heaven...

Jeri & Family, we've known Larry for what seems a lifetime, we have special memories of so many years past. He was always the life of the party, he had a way of knowing everyone in the room no matter where you were, we swear he was a Wal-Mart greeter at heart. We hope he and Jerry have met up in heaven and are looking down on all of us while they have one hell of a good time.
Love & Hugs to you all

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Warm Summer Sun
Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
