Mark Mackey Obituary

Mark Edward Mackey

Mark Edward Mackey, age 75, formerly of Smith River, California passed away peacefully May 27, 2022.
To celebrate Mark's life, a private gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2pm in Smith River. For more information, please contact Roberta at (818) 535-5300.
Mark was born September 21, 1947 and spent his childhood with his younger sisters, Adrianne and Roberta in Smith River. He graduated Del Norte High School and afterward enlisted in the Navy where he became highly respected as an Air Traffic Controller during the war in Viet Nam.
During this time, he married Maggie and had 3 children, Reagan,Thad and David. After 8 years of service, he left the Navy to pursue other interests. Eventually, he became established in Fallon, NV employed by Ford Aerospace, serving in the Nevada Army National Guard and pursuing a Bachelor Degree at the University of Nevada. Now married to Diana, he adopted son, Robbie. Some years later Mark and Diana took separate paths and the marriage ended in amicable divorce. Mark remained in Fallon where he met Janet from Oregon. When Janet returned to her home state, he followed and they were married November 4, 1991. He had a long career as a driver for TNT Reddaway and was awarded for 1 Million Accident Free Miles.
He also attained the rank Sargeant First Class in the Oregon Army National Guard. He retired in 2006 from both careers. Mark was a warrior and survivor. In 2005, he was diagnosed with cancer, subsequently undergoing treatment. Throughout, he never complained. Instead, he was always more concerned how you were doing.
This kind and gentle man is terribly missed by his wife, Janet, children, Reagan Cutler (Jeff), Thad McDonald (Lynn), Rob Mackey (Vicki), step-children, Jim and Jacki Thime, sister, Roberta Mackey-Robin and numerous nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Sylvia (Slack), son, David, sister, Adrianne Willard, nephew, John Ogden and uncle, Bob Slack.
In memoriam, Mark's family suggests standing for our national anthem and thanking a veteran for their service.

Christmas reminds me of our five-dollar make or bake Christmas gift exchange. The assignment was to draw a name and make or bake a gift and spend five dollars or less Mark draw my name. He must have given this gift an awful lot of thought for it was very creative even if it would never be put to use. He had made, using a mesh sack the oranges had come in, the tiniest, airy-est, women, Orange, 2 pièce bathing suit you ever saw! We had a good laugh and a Merry five-dollar Christmas.
