Matilda D. Andrada

Matilda (Tilly) D. Andrada went to be with her Lord on May 13, 2014 at her daughter Delores' home surrounded by her four daughters. Grandma Tilly, as she was fondly called by her grand and great-grandchildren, was a long-time resident of McKinleyville, CA., having moved to Humboldt Co. in 1968 from the San Joaquin Valley. Tilly was born on December 17, 1924 to A.M. and Maria Cardoza in Los Banos and moved to the Hanford area, where she met and married Tony Andrada on June 6, 1945. Their first daughter was born in 1946. Tilly was the oldest of three children and grew up on a dairy farm. Her parent's had moved to Humboldt Co. in the early 1960s and soon Tilly's family and her brother's family followed suit. Tilly lived in the first home they purchased in 1969 until she became ill in April 2014. She will be fondly remembered for her chicken soup, chicken stew, and pot roasts, all made from memory and most of all, her homemade fudge and bon-bons at the holidays. She loved to crochet dish cloths and read and watch her favorite shows on TV, including The Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars and discussing the results with her daughters. Tilly worked for many years as a floor supervisor at Lazio's Seafood Plant, where she had worked with her mother, daughters and many good friends. Matilda is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Tony, her brother Joe Cardoza and her sister-in-law, Frances Cardoza, who passed this past November and was like a sister to her. She is survived by her sister Mary Andrada of Kingsburg, CA. Also surviving her are her daughters and their spouses, Delores Page (Tom), Evelyn Page (Gary), Patricia Holtgrewe (Ken) and Debra Andrada (Cliff), and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, one of which she had a very special bond with. Services for Matilda (Tilly) will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery chapel on May 18, 2014 at 1 p.m. and officiated by Pastor Jim Ray of the Full Gospel Church of McKinleyville.
