Mike Hanrahan Obituary
Mike Hanrahan, 77, passed away painlessly March 1, 2023 of kidney failure, at the home of his devoted daughter, Leah Hanrahan Gee. Loving father to Leah (Kamara) and Lisa Oleman (Kurt), Mike was also beloved by his grandchildren Ryan Nelson (Shannon), Jerome Gee, Ziamara Gee and Amaya Gee, great grandchildren Rose and Rowan Nelson, sisters Cathy Filgas (Shoaib Tareen) and Jan Filgas, and nieces and nephew Cassie Elliot, Sidra Tareen and Mikhiel Tareen. He is also survived by his wonderful step-mom, Patricia Hanrahan and his love, Helen Belloni.
Mike was born January 15, 1947 to Patrick "Pat" Hanrahan and Mary Graham. His folks divorced when Mike was a baby, and Mary remarried George Filgas when Mike was 7. Mike graduated from St. Bernard's High in 1964, lived with his father Pat and wife Patricia on the East coast, then returned to Eureka where he served in the National Guard. He married his wife, Santa, and they started HANCO Construction. Even though Mike and Santa divorced later, they remained friends and family throughout the years. Mike later graduated from Humboldt State with a business degree and completed his first year of his MBA program.
Known for his humor, quick wit and feistiness, many a friend would be able to tell you a funny "Mike story". Being a gifted storyteller, Mike could probably tell the story better himself! Mike was a contractor by trade, and he will always be remembered as a hard worker who gave a hand up to many. Mike was also an ardent NASCAR fan, as many close friends can attest to—his stories were joyful and hilarious.
A celebration of life will be held on April 22, from 1-4pm at the family home, 2835 N St, in Eureka. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a veterans organization. Mike was passionate about homeless veterans deserving a safe home.
