Nadine Barton (Edeline) passed away unexpectedly on the morning of January 20, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ. She was 65. Nadine was born in Eureka, CA to Marguerite and George Edeline in 1943.She attended school in Eureka, CA and made many friends growing up. In Campfire Girls she discovered Camp Kimtu in Willlow Creek, CA. She fell in love with the warm summers there and maintained a constant quest to get back to the Trinity River and away from the chilly coast to “warm up." Life was rich for Nadine growing up under the inland California sun listening to her favorite, Ricky Nelson, crooning on the radio.
Nadine [Dene] loved travel and adventure and she joined the Armed Services in 1962 under Military Dental Service. She was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia when in 1963 she met the love of her life, Lester Donald Barton, also in the US Army. In 1965, Leslie Ann Barton, their one and only daughter was born and thus began a long exciting litany of life and travels of an army family. Nadine settled in Phoenix AZ in 1978. Northern relatives were relieved that she had finally found a place warm enough to suit her and visited her often there, enjoying her generous hospitality.
Dene had a tremendous heart with a fierce need for independence. An incorrigible spirit, she was always quick with a laugh and a hug. She gave us all more than we can measure in love and surprises. She will be deeply missed by all who have had the pleasure of being close to her.
Dene was preceded in death by her father, George Edeline and her mother, Marguerite Lester. She leaves her husband, Don Barton and daughter, Leslie Barton; brother Chet Edeline (Debbi); sisters Suzy Edeline and Cile Stanbrough; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be planned in Humboldt County at a later date. Anyone interested in attending can leave a message in the guest book. In lieu of contributions, we ask that people simply take the time to love each other without condition.

As a child my mother, Gail Edeline, would talk about her cousin Deenie and all of the fun things they did together. We called her "Deenie Weenie in the yellow polka dot bikini". She was so beautiful and I wanted to grow up to be just like her, including the bikini! Such fond memories of a wonderful woman. Blessings to the family.

Dear Don, Leslie, Chet, Suzi and Ceil,
Vern and I send you our deepest sympathy and pray that God will bless you and comfort you in your sorrow.
Nadine was one of the most cherished people in my life. When I was a teenager, I often baby-sat for her and Chet, and when she became a teenager, she baby-sat for my children, who always looked forward to having "Dene" stay with them. My children loved her dearly, and we often spoke of the joy she brought to all of our lives. She was more like a little sister to me than a cousin.
We will miss Nadine dearly. Her loving spirit and happy smile will live in our hearts forever.

Dear Family of Nadine,
I am very sorry to hear about your loss. Nadine and I went to school together and we both had campfire as another bond. My Dad helped build and repair some of the buildings at Camp Kimtu and the whole family loved being up there. Nadine was a wonderful schoolmate and her quick and compassionate nature was much appreciated.
Nadine was considered very adventurous when she joined the Army. I went away to school at the same time and we lost touch. Reading about her life gives me a happy feeling that she went after her dreams and lived life to the fullest and never lost her compassion and love of life.
Please let me know when her Memorial service will be held in Humboldt as I and some of her other classmates will want to attend. If I can be of any help in arranging it or contacting people, etc. please let me know.
Best Wishes,

Don, Leslie, Chet and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Nadine’s Dad George was a big part of my family’s life and will always be considered my grandpa. With George and Nanny we spent some time together down the years and I always remember you all fondly. I know that Nanny (Mabel Steinegger Edeline) always considered you all family, and loved each of you to the end. I hope that you all know that I and my family will have you all in our prayers and will be thinking of you all, in this time of sorrow. Love to each of you and please feel free to contact us if you would like to.

Please know my sympathy and prayers are with all of you. Nadine is a beautiful person - as she was a beautiful little girl who was flower girl at Hal's and my wedding. I was so glad to see her again after so many years, and I'm sorry I have not kept in better touch. I never did get back through Phoenix after that. Please let me know when services here will be. MR
