Nicholas Martin Obituary

Nicholas John
Martin

On October 04, 2023, we lost a special man, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Nick was born on August 11, 1948, in Arcata, CA to his parents, Lincoln and Virginia (Clark) Martin.
He was raised in Willow Creek, a small rural town in Humboldt County, where he grew up hunting and fishing, and doing all the things that young boys love to do. Nick had a large extended family in the Willow Creek and Salyer community, and transferred back to the area in 1984, after living in Stockton for several years. He was able to hunt and fish with his dad and brother, Terry, and get reacquainted with all his cousins on the Ammon side of the family. In 2011, after his stepfather's death, Nick and his family moved to Bend to care for his widowed mother. After her death, he moved to Springfield, Oregon with his wife and youngest daughter. Nick is survived by his wife, Anne (Mohon) Martin, whom he always called "Blondie." He is also survived by his daughters, Alicia Martin of Bend, Oregon, Stephanie Reeder of Tucson, AZ, and Victoria Serr (Neil) of Vacaville, Ca, and step-daughter Tammi Downs (Kevin) of Eugene, Or., brothers, Pat Cooley of Burns, Oregon, Terry Martin of Idaho, Alexandra Harrison of Bend, Oregon, Abby Downs of Eugene, Oregon, Laura Miguel of Stockton, Alec Petford and Cody Petford of Tucson, AZ, Samantha Serr, Darrien Serr, and Nicolette Serr of Vacaville, CA. and Tatiana Duran of Springfield, OR and six great-grandchildren.
Nick will really be missed by his favorite niece and nephew, Lisa and Margarito Carrillo. They were so good to him, taking him places, and taking him to the lake, or just for drives. He loved them very much.
Nick was a lineman for PG&E his entire working life, starting with summer jobs working for his grandfather, Gene Merritt, who was a foreman with PG&E General Construction. He worked all over PG&E's territory building towers and power lines. In 2013, Nick retired with 45 years. He loved his job and being able to get the lights on (no matter what) and make people happy. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Lincoln and DD Martin of Salyer, Virginia Cooley, and Bob Cooley of Bend, his wife's parents, Walt Mohon, and Marilyn Harrell, whom he treated like his own parents, grandparents Eugene and Alice Merritt of Fort Bragg, CA, John and Annie Benson Martin of Willow Creek, Ca, Frank and Gertrude Bibbins of Hawkins Bar, CA, and his oldest friend, David "Paco" Vargas of American Samoa, who passed on Sept 13, three weeks ago.
Nick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, a favorite Uncle, and a loyal friend. All his nieces and nephews called him the "Big Kahuna." Nick spent many years in the PG&E troubleman's truck, on call 24/7. He had to miss a lot of events and family BBQ's, but still managed to be a great husband and father. He and his wife, Anne, were married for almost 38 years. Nick spent several years fighting kidney disease, and a stroke in 2006 kept him from being able to enjoy his retirement the way he'd planned A kidney transplant in 2013 gave him another ten years of life, which he was very grateful for. He treated people with respect and was always willing to help when needed. He is already missed so much and leaves a big hole in our hearts.
Per Nick's wishes, there will not be a memorial service or funeral, there will be a private family celebration of his life at a later date.

I´m so sad in hearing Nick has passed. I wish my PG&E life hadn´t overwhelmed my life to such a point that I failed to keep in touch with Nick. I best the best memories of Nick, he was the first person I worked with the day I was hired (May 1, 1973) for the next 3 years we worked side by side. We became best friends. I was an apprentice lineman and Nick was my teacher. Nick was part of our family, my son and daughter both called him uncle Nick, even now they only know him as uncle Nick. I retired with 45 years in 2018. Nick taught me to work hard, be your brothers keeper, laugh at every opportunity, listen well and have fun. My brother Nick was a wonderful human being. I truly do love Nick, and I´m glad he found true love in you Blondi´e

We are so sorry to hear of Nick's passing. He was a most caring and loving person. He was a wonderful neighbor always there with a helping hand. He loved surprising us when he planted dafffidils along our shared driveway so we could enjoy them in the spring. We will miss his warm smile and his humor. God Bless you Anne and the family during this heartfelt time and may he help you with your sorrows and loss. Our prayers are with you always. Love, Ken and Darleen McCoy

Nick was the best husband for my sister, and brother-in-law a man could ask for. I have many memories over the years of great times. My daughters always lived staying at Uncle Nick and Aunt Anne´s house on South Fork. Nick, you´ll be missed.
