Olive Grace (Wimer) Thissell passed away Friday August 8, 2008, after a short stay in the hospital. Olive was born in Colburn, Colorado on February 18, 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Leland C. Thissell, her son Leland Leroy Thissell, her parents Joseph and Grace Wimer and siblings Howard Wimer, Lois McIntosh, and Arnold Wimer.
She is survived by her sons and daughter and their spouses, Joseph and Patricia Thissell of Florence, Oregon, Charles and Sara Thissell of Trinidad, Donna Cluver of Eureka, Ronnie Thissell of Eureka, Gary Thissell and Trevlin Griffith of Eureka, Raymond Thissell of Eureka, Denny and Sue Thissell of Eureka, and Leroy’s wife Virginia Thissell-Carter of Eureka. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Sousa of Eureka; and grandchildren, Wendy Fisher, Ann Riley, Kenneth Thissell, Jerry Thissell, Jim Thissell, Lori Larson, Tamela Christianson, Terri Chandler, Andrew Cluver, Shawn Thissell, Shannon Gunther, Shane Thissell, Christina Thissell, and Jason Thissell; 28 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Olive moved to Eureka with her family in 1925. She attended elementary school at Franklin and graduated from Eureka High School in 1938. She then met and married the love of her life Leland Thissell.
Olive’s greatest pleasure was being with her family and taking care of them. She loved children and her large extended family. She had a way of making everyone feel like they were part of her family and she was happiest when the house was full of people. She loved doing craft projects and was proud of the fact that she had made an afghan for each one of her 14 grandchildren. She also loved growing all types of flowers.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Home, 1835 E Street, Eureka, on Monday August 11, 2008, from noon to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be at Sanders Funeral Home on Tuesday August 12, 2008, at 3 p.m.
