Pauline Lindquist Obituary

Pauline D. Lindquist Our beautiful mother, Pauline D. Lindquist, passed away at home on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the age of 84. She faced death just as she lived - with courage, grace, love for her family and friends, and faith in God. Pauline was born in Campbell Hill, Illinois to Arnold and Wilhemine Reuscher. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline, Illinois, and while there, met her future husband and true love, Dean, who was in the seminary at the time. After graduation in 1950, they married and subsequently moved from Illinois to parishes in Kansas, Fort Francis, Ontario, and Los Angeles before moving to Humboldt County in 1964. They also spent 5 years living in Sweden as missionaries. Pauline and Dean were married 59 years. She chose the perfect mate to make a full life, traveling together to Europe, Scandinavia, China, Egypt, Mexico, and the Caribbean. They were a matched set. Dean, with a gleam in his eye, always referred to Pauline as "my beautiful wife". Pauline's nursing career spanned 50 years, both as a practitioner and as an educator. She went back to school later in life and graduated from Humboldt State with a Bachelor's in Nursing. She taught nursing at College of the Redwoods and at Humboldt State University. She was active in the American Nurses Association and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. Pauline loved nursing and had a knack for helping others feel better. After she retired, she continued to keep up with continuing education and kept her nursing license. Pauline was active in several charitable organizations including Eureka Woman's Club where she was past president and head of the reading group for the Redwood District. Every Friday she could be found volunteering at the local American Cancer Society office. Her Relay For Life team did fund raising all year long, and during the 24 hour relay, Pauline famously walked all night long! She was also a member of Stonecroft Ministries. She loved and studied the Bible, leading and attending Bible studies. She was an avid walker and faithful member of the Dawn Breakers. She loved to read, listen to music, stay up on current events, and play bridge. Her day was complete only when she finished the crossword puzzle and jumble. She valued friendship and was blessed with many lifelong friends. Those who loved her knew her to be generous beyond measure. She found joy in giving to others and was a living example of Christian Discipleship. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Dean Lindquist; sister Bernie McGee, and brother Harold Lee Reuscher. She is survived by her sons, Eric, John, and Garth, and by her daughter, Pam; daughters in law Larrilyn Lindquist, Jan Lindquist, and Melinda Prewitt. She is also survived by her 3 nieces, 5 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 5 great grandchildren, and our family dog, Sadie. We will honor Pauline by always "going with God", being nonjudgmental, looking for good in others, being willing to lend a hand, being generous with all, being always kind, and by loving one another. Please join us at her Memorial Service at 2pm on Friday, January 3, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3230 Harrison Avenue, Eureka, CA. A reception will immediately follow the service. Private interment will be held later. Although flowers are welcome, Pauline would be honored for any memorial contributions made to the charity of your choice, or you may consider her favorites: American Cancer Society (Humboldt-Del Norte unit), Immanuel Lutheran Church, or your local Public Radio. We are saddened to hear of Pauline's passing, but take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her sweetheart, Dean. Without a doubt, her many contributions will have a lasting impact not only on her students and friends, but the countless patients she provided care over her many years of service. To Pauline's family: She was one of my best friends, whom I respected, admired for her positive spirit in all she did and her great acts of kindness always. I was so very lucky to have had her in my life for so many years as a dear and cherished friend. She was truly a very "special lady" whom I miss and will continue to do so, but so thankful to have known her. Hold tight to all the wonderful memories you have of her and your father to help you through this very difficult time in your lives. She was a great asset to her church and community and leaves a definite void, but she will not be forgotten. My condolences to you all and know that you're in my thoughts and prayers as you have been through this difficult time. She's in the hands of the Lord as she's always been. R.I.P. Pauline.

I was so very sad to read of Pauline's passing. I first knew her through the Eureka Women's Club and counted her among my dearest friends in Eureka. Although we have not lived there for many years I have never forgotten her and how wonderful she and Dean were to me. She was so generous and always first to volunteer. May she be blessed always. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

I am saddened by the loss of Pauline, a dear friend and nursing peer, and rejoice in the knowledge that she is rejoined with her beloved Dean. I first met Pauline when we worked together in the ICU at MRCH, and from then on, our lives inter-twined throughout many different nursing & personal settings. What I always found consistent was Pauline's great love, caring ways, & compassion for all people, no matter what walk of life or circumstances. She graced this world in such a gentle, unassuming way, and always wanted others to be seen for their magnificance. She was the magnificant one & will be sorely missed by all who were graced by her love and care! She was truly an exemplary nurse & human being! I will miss her precious smile, love & kindness, but I will hold the precious memories of being touched by her life again & again over the past 40 years!! May her family be supported & comforted by loving friends & the grace of God during this time of loss... May they also rejoice in the knowledge of the impact of her life on so many others!

Pauline counseled me not to worry because if her time here is over, then she was looking forward to being with Dean again. I am happy for her, but sad for me- a better mentor and friend can not be found. I will miss her truly.

Dear Pauline guided me into the Eureka Woman's Club to honor the years of dedication and commitment given to this organization of women wanting to improve their own community. We will miss her positive spirit, continual acts of giving and her graciousness. I am so lucky to have had her in my life. I have missed her in illness and will miss her as she has transcended into another way of being. My condolences to her loved ones and many dear friends. Sincerely, Susan Willan

I was saddened to hear about Pauline's passing. She and Dean were great friends with my parents, Dorothea "Duckie" and Frank Birnie. I first met them through Grace Good Shepherd Church in McKinleyville. I have fond memories of Pauline and Dean. They were the kindest people you could ever meet. Heaven has two great additions. My prayers and thoughts are with the family at this time.

Pauline will always have a special place in our hearts. During the years, we have often been thinking of all warm memories we have from our American relatives Pauline and Dean Lindquist. The years they spent in “the old homeland” Sweden gave us so many opportunities of meeting them. We are so grateful for all those moments we spent together, almost like brothers and sisters. We miss them both a lot.
Their nice children Pam, John, Garth and Eric are now in our thoughts and prayers.
May God bless you during this time. Love from your Swedish “cousins”,
Anita and Reine Rosander
