Richard Lee "Rick" Lowrey passed away unexpectedly at the age of 58 in Fortuna where he had grown up and spent most of his adult years. Rick was a native Californian, born in San Diego. He attended schools in Rohnerville and Fortuna, CA, graduating from Fortuna Union High School. His younger brother, Bill Dean Lowrey, preceded him by accidental death in 1995.
Those remaining behind and mourning Rick’s passing are his parents, Elynor J. and Dale Cooper, Richard F. "Dick" Lowrey; sister, Kaylyn Robison and her husband Roger of Olympia, Washington, and their adult children Lena, Amber, Shawn, Todd and Paige; Rick’s daughter, Julie Thornbury and husband Mike of Germany, their children Annabella and Trevor; daughter, Jennifer Bones of Fortuna and husband Lonnie, and their children Colby, Savannah, Jacob, and Julia; step-brothers and step-sisters and other relatives and innumerable friends.
Rick was an energetic and avid softball player, who loved the game and often joked about qualifying for the senior team before he hung up his glove and bat to proceed to the eternal softball field in the paradise of his hopes and dreams. He had often served as a league umpire. He was a NASCAR enthusiast and memorabilia lover.
Rick was aggressively outgoing, and no one remained a stranger to him. His many good friends, old and young, close throughout the years are numbed by his sudden exit of this life. He was an innovative, adept, and dedicated, professional "house" painter, a caring son, sibling and all around king of the good guys, who loved fun and good times.
The family invites you to join in a memorial celebration of Rick’s life at Fortuna Fire Hall on Friday, April 27, 12-3 P.M.
Rick would not want his passing to be a time of mourning but would remind all who knew and loved him that
The Clock of Life is wound but once, and no man has the power
To tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour.
Now is the only time you own...
So live and toil with will.
Place no faith in your tomorrow...
For the clock may then be still.
Arrangements under the direction of Goble’s Fortuna Mortuary Inc., Fortuna, CA.

I am so sorry to hear about Rick's sudden passing. Rick and I were just expressing to each other a few days before he passed our optomistic outlook for our beloved 49ers come this football season. We spent many a Sunday watching the game and drinking beer at Eel River Brewery. Rick knew all the stats and all the records of all the players it seemed the 49ers ever had. I will keep a positive attitude Rick and cheer our 49ers on loud enough for both of us come this season! Cheers buddy!

Rick was like a father to me, he was in our wedding and had a huge impact on my life as a young adult. I am so grateful for the time I had with him and he became one of my husband's best friends. We will miss him everyday especially when some thing fun is going on and he's not there to give his two cents.

Would just be terribly remiss to not say how eternally grateful Chet and I are to Rick (and Cindy)for it was through them that the LORD arranged for our adoption of our son, Chet O'Brian, when he was 41/2 months old. And what a blessing he has been to our lives!
I smile to think of the times he told me when we were in the process of making our little house on the river a home, "Sue, you would get a lot more done if you wouldn't stop and step back to admire your work so much. :)
To this day we do not have salad without remembering Rick. If you didn't have Marie's dressing, he wouldn't eat salad...there wasn't any other dressing but MARIE'S! AND, heaven forbid, if you offered him Miracle Whip! :)
We have many lasting memories of all kinds of times spent with this young man...he will always have a special place in our hearts! Wish we had kept in closer touch over the years.
And, as we heard you say so many times, Rick, we will "Keep the faith!"
"Friends,"

Dearest "Family":
There are no words that can express our sense of loss with Rick's untimely passing. Only God knows the depth of our sorrow and condition of each of our hearts. But He also knows that He has each day of our lives planned and that He always has the very best for us. Rick's work was done here on earth and God needed him in heaven. We can each look forward to that Blessed Hope of eternal life with our savior. I am so thankful that Rick and I got to visit over the last couple of years...we shared many good memories and had a fun time laughing and hugging. He has always been a part of me and will remain in my heart. I look forward to seeing him again when it's my time to go home ... he'll be there to meet me along with my other loved ones. May God give you strengh and comfort in this time of loss and sorrow.
With much love ...
Janie Bear
(He still called me this affectionate name.)

I'm sorry to here about your loss. I first meet Rick when I dated Julie in High school and later became friends with him though softball. I even went to a tournament with him and Kenny Campbell in Willow Creek once.We enjoyed playing softball and golf all weekend. He was a fun guy and will be missed. I'm sorry I can't make the service, I coach track and field at Fortuna High School and we have a meet in Grants Pass Friday and Saturday.
