Ron Linderman

Ron Linderman Trinidad residents were grieved to lose their friend and neighbor Samuel Sharon "Ron" Linderman, who passed away on April 4 after a brief illness. Ron was a brilliant, eclectic man, who had expertise in many fields, including astronomy, history, literature, tropical fish, music, and art. He loved the theater, especially the musicals of the 1930's and '40's. He was a skilled bridge player, an enthusiastic participant in the Trinidad Song Circle, and owned sheet music from every great songwriter of the 20th century. He also was an avid model railroader, an interpreter of dreams, and a connoisseur of fine clothing. Ron was born in Israel in 1939 to Teddy and Esti Linderman. He spent his childhood in Tel Aviv. After graduating from high school, he served in the Israeli Army. Ron decided to pursue his higher education in the United States, and studied at Columbia University. He loved his adopted country, saying that America gave hope to the world, and became a citizen. Ron then went on to law school at New York University. Ron lived in New York's Greenwich Village during the turbulent '60's, where he got to see Bob Dylan and many other icons of rock and folk music in local coffeehouses. He loved the exciting atmosphere of this unique artistic community. After graduation, Ron became a prosecutor for the City of New York, winning an astonishing 98% conviction rate for the cases he handled. He then went on to work for the U.S. Attorney's Office, fighting white collar crime. He also had a private law practice, and eventually made a second career in the garment industry. In 1967, he met the love of his life, Frances Stillman. In many ways they were complete opposites. He was a calm logician; she was an artist. But the relationship worked; they were happily married and raised two children -Tamara and Matthew. When Frances' health began to deteriorate, Ron began looking for a beautiful place in a mild climate, where they could spend their final years in peace and tranquility. He found a gorgeous home in Trinidad, with stunning views of the ocean. Frances eventually died after a lingering illness. Ron made many friends in Trinidad, and was happy to share his knowledge and expertise with anybody who was interested. His daughter, Tamara, described her father as "a Renaissance man, a real mensch." Ron also had a mysterious side, often revealing hidden depths of mind and spirit. Ron died at home, with his children at his side, looking out at the ocean he always loved. He was buried in the Trinidad Cemetery on April 5, and a celebration of his life was held afterward. He was predeceased by his parents Teddy and Esti Linderman and his wife Frances Linderman. He is survived by his daughter, Tamara Lyons, his son Matthew Linderman, and his grandson Asher Lyons.
