Roy Smith Obituary

In this troubled world

it’s refreshing to find

Someone who still has

the time to be kind.

Someone who still has

the faith to believe

That the more you give

the more you receive,

Someone who’s ready

by thought, word or deed

To reach out a hand

in the hour of need

~Helen Steiner Rice~

Roy Smith passed away on June 14, 2004. Roy was born April 24, 1933, in Onley Springs, Colo. His family moved to Hawthorne, Nev., where he attended school. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan during The Korean War.

After his service in the Air Force, Roy attended Portland State College. He took a job at a local restaurant where he developed a love of the business. With partners Warren Hurst and Robert Perkins, Roy opened Angelo’s Pizza, the first pizza parlor in Eureka. In the year 2001, Roy passed control of the businesses down to his family, and after 35 years retired.

He enjoyed camping, especially his time with his grandchildren at the “R” Ranch. In his early years, he loved basketball, hunting, woodworking and boating. In his later years, his passion was computers.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Bane; mother, Bessie; and two brothers, Raymond and Robert.

Roy is survived by his wife of 35 1/2 years, Virginia; sister, Betty Massey - both of Eureka; five children, Pamala Folger of Paradise, Sandra Tramble of Eureka, Patrick and wife Brenda Folger of Medford, Ore., Michael Folger of San Carlos, and Jason and wife Lana Smith of Eureka; eight grandchildren, Irah, Issac and Ian Paddock, Heidi Tramble, Robert Folger, Austin Smith, Maegan and Michael Folger II; two nephews, James and Maria Massey of Hudson, Fla., and Roger and Victoria Massey of Eureka; and great-nieces and nephews.

The Smith family wishes to thank Bernard and Peggi Sharp of Fallon, Nev., for their never-ending love and support.

We wish to thank the nurses and doctors of St. Joseph Hospital - especially those in the ICU. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations in Roy’s name.

The Smith family thanks everyone for their support, flowers and donations made in Roy’s honor. There are not words to express how much we will all miss him.

Roy requested there be no services and wished to be remembered as he was the last time you saw him.

Words cannot express how much I miss this man He was like my second father growing up and he was Grandpa Roy Boy to my children. He and my Dad became best of friends after Jason and I became best buds at ages 3&4. I´ll never forget all the happy times we spent with him in his workshop working on our bikes and then motorcycles, the summers we spent at the R-Ranch and the lakes, and all the times we got to make our own pizza concoctions before they would open for the day. I´m so grateful that he was such a big part of my growing up years and my life wouldn´t have been the same without Roy and Virginia and the whole family. I love you Roy Boy RIP

Dear Virginia:

I very much miss Roy's sense of humor and emailed political insights. We had been communicating by email ever since I got his address at our 40th MCHS reunion. His grand tour of Elko is quite stunning. We hope that all is well with you, Virginia. Roy was a good person.

Love,

Virginia and family, we were sorry to see that Roy passed away and our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Tom has many fond memories of his time working at Angelos and your home. We are in Montana now and of all things running a restaurant. We understand Roy's passion for the business, as we too have bitten by the bug. Take care and if you are every in West Yellowstone Montana be sure to look us up at the Timberline Cafe.
