Stephanie McAfee Obituary

STEPHANIE MCAFEE Stephanie McAfee passed away peacefully at her home in Eureka, CA on February 4th, 2018 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Born to William and Bertha Miller in Brawley, CA on April 13th, 1946, Stephanie was a graduate of Brawley Union High School and attended IVC and San Diego State University. She moved to Eureka and married her husband Robert L. McAfee on December 10th, 1988, where she worked for the Redwood Community Action Agency (RCAA) and served as Assistant Personnel Director for 29 years. Stephanie greatly enjoyed her travels to Mexico with Robert, knitting and sewing, and spent much time tending to her home garden. She was a quilt-maker and certified master gardener and her garden was featured in a local home and garden tour. Her creativity and friendship will be greatly missed, and she will always be admired for her strength and courage. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Bertha Miller, and son James Bradley Bunch. Stephanie is survived by her husband Robert McAfee; children Mari Lynn Pemberton (Oscar), and David Bunch (Charlene); grandchildren Darcy Peterson (Brent), and Luke Huffman; six great-grandchildren; sister Leah Williams; niece Morgan Williams, and sister-in-law Julia McAfee. There will be a private service at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to the Breast and GYN Health Project of Arcata, CA or a cancer charity of your choice. My sister was the bravest and strongest woman I have ever known. Her creativity, in so many areas, was amazing. She touched many in her life with special results. We have lost a beautiful woman too soon. Her wedding to Robert was a special evening full of love and happiness, a beautiful memory.

To Robert
I am so sorry to learn that Stephanie has passed away. She was such a great friend to me. She got me through a very tough time with her calm, caring counseling. She was a bright spot in the lives of so many people.
Once we moved out of state, I used to call her once or twice a month to see how things were going. I told her NOT to sugarcoat things and she always told me what was really going on. Robert, on the few occasions when Stephanie wasn't able to come to the phone, you were also very gracious and shared details of her day to day life.
I know she fought a valiant battle and for a very LONG time.
I hope all your wonderful memories will be comfort as you work your way through this period. Bless you.

I am so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed working with Stephanie at the county for many years. She was a well-respected and hard working problem solver. She tackled her illness with grace and dignity. I am glad to have known her and hope her family finds peace in their memories of happy times.
