Valarie Pulkkinen-Christopher

Valarie Pulkkinen-Christopher of Eureka was born on Sept. 22, 1950 at St. Joseph Hospital. She passed away on Nov. 30, 2022 at the Ida Emmerson Hospice House in Eureka. She was the 4th out of 5 children of Robert and Agnes Garcelon of Eureka, who preceded her in death, along with her oldest brother Robert Garcelon of Sunnyvale, Ca.
Val liked to garden flowers and vegetables. She liked doing all sorts of arts and crafts and was an avid cook with a penchant to purchase, copy or tear out any recipe if it looked good to her. She worked as a dietary supervisor for General Hospital for more than 20 years. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving husband Dean Christopher of Eureka; her daughter Heidi Swan and her husband Larry, and their 2 children, Tayler and Spencer of Eureka; her son Matthew Pulkkinen and his wife Kiery of Mckinnleyville and their 2 children, Cyprus and Hunter. She is also survived by her sisters Darlene Beskeen-Candella of Woodland, Ca. and her family; Charlotte Apelar of Citrus Heights, Ca. and her family; her brother James Garcelon of Bremerton, Wa. and his family; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; granddaughter Heavenleigh Davis and many, many friends, young and old. She is missed dearly and will always be remembered, especially on those clear, cloudless, sunny days, when the sky is the color of her eyes.
The family hopes that you will be able to attend the Celebration of Life memorial service for this amazing woman who touched so many lives. It will be held on Sat. April 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church,422 W. Del Norte St. Eureka, Ca. 95501 in the reception hall. It is a potluck, so please bring a favorite side dish, appetizer or dessert. Spaghetti, salad, and bread will be provided by the family, as well as coffee, tea, sodas, and water.
