Gordon Smith Obituary

RANDOLPH - Gordon Walker Smith Sr., 86, died Monday, March 25, 2013, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

He was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Medford, Mass., the son of Robert and Sarah (Sellars) Smith.

He was raised in Medford and attended Medford schools. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a cryptographic technician, stationed in Germany during World War II.

He married Barbara Barrett in 1949. They were divorced in 1965. He married Minnie "Pete" Ricard in 1967.

He worked at several jobs, including Haggett Press, Ethan Allen Furniture as a supervisor for nine years, and at Rodco as a production manager. He later worked at Bombardier as a manufacturing supervisor. He retired in 1989.

He enjoyed playing sports, including golf, and was a catcher for the town baseball team in Randolph. He also won several trophies as a bowler.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mark Smith, of Middlebury, Kenneth Smith, of Randolph, and Jeffrey Smith, of Gainesville, Ga.; a daughter, Frances Weston, of East Calais; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Smith, of Medford, Mass.; and a sister, Margaret Spurr, of Reading, Mass. He was predeceased by two sons, Gordon Smith Jr. and Barrett Smith; a daughter, Jennifer Medina; seven brothers; and a sister.

Friends may call Saturday, March 30, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Randolph.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
