Laura Badger Obituary

WASHINGTON - Laura Lee Bolles Badger, 46, of Vermont Route 110, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Respite House in Williston, with family and friends at her bedside, after a valiant battle with breast cancer.

Born on Feb. 24, 1966, in Barre, she was the second daughter of Leland and Shirlene (Elmer) Bolles. She attended Barre Town Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre in the class of 1984.

On Oct. 23, 1993, Laura married Peter Badger in the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Washington. Their son, Dakotah John, was born on Jan. 5, 1996.

For the past 22 years, Laura was an employee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont. She worked throughout her various courses of cancer treatment, rarely showing the private struggle she endured. At times, some of her co-workers were unaware that she was undergoing another course of treatment, and that was exactly how she wanted it. To the extent that she could control it, Laura never wanted her cancer to affect those around her.

Laura always felt that her most important job was as wife to Peter and mother to Dakotah. She continued to fight her cancer battle to gain more time with them, succeeding for nine long years. She was a proud mom, speaking often of Dakotah's accomplishments in school, sports and his other activities. Heavily involved with his schooling, she served as a school board member at Washington Village School.

She and her family enjoyed camping, fishing and other outdoor sports. She always looked forward to summer when they could see the special friends they made camping over the years.

Survivors include her husband, Peter, of Washington; her son, Dakotah, of Washington; her father, Leland Bolles, of East Barre; two sisters, Linda Otis and her husband, Marcel, of Barre, and Cheryl Joslin and her husband, Erik, of Warren; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and close friends.

Her daughter, Brooke; her mother; her niece, April Otis; and her great-nephew, Hunter Potvin, predeceased her.

Her service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre. There are no calling hours.

Following the service, there will be a potluck luncheon and time for fellowship at a destination to be announced at the church.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge of the arrangements.

I agree, Laura had a great smile! She was strong and positive and displayed a lot of courage. Although I moved away 4 years ago, we kept tabs on each other through facebook. However, nothing ever mentioned about her fight. That's dignity and class. I walked for Breast Cancer last year with a dozen pink ribbons of the people I knew that had fought breast cancer. Laura's name was there. There will be a special ribbon for Laura next year. God Bless you Dakotah and Peter. She love you both so much.

Peter and Dakotah - So sorry. She fought long and hard to beat this illness with such determination. Most would not have had the strength to accomplish all that she did during the past months. I am happy to have had such a good time in Stowe with you all last May. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. My door is always open if you are ever in Virginia and need a place to stay.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
Laura and I worked together, her at blue cross and me at FAHC. I worked with blue cross in getting them to pay the hospital charges and if I needed advice on how or what to do with a claim, I would call Laura for her expertise, she would always help me with her 22 years of knowledge, her voice was distinct and I always knew it was her when she called. We would talk about her trips of camping and she would rave about her son and husband. As the years went on she then started fighting with cancer, I didn't talk with her much after that, but I did get to talk to her before Christmas and she had pretty much said there wasn't anything more they could do to help her, but she was going to keep looking for something, anything to keep herself going.I wished her well and that was the last time I heard from her. What a brave person! I will miss her voice and never forget the kind and wonderful person that she was.
Be in peace Laura.....

I wonder if you know how many lives you have touched
Do you know that people here love you so much

Do you know how many lives you have changed
Amd how many lives you have rearranged

I wish I could have just one more year
Because I can't picture my life without you here

Do you know you will be greatly missed by all
Just one more time to hear your voice when I call

Just one more laugh, one more time to see you walk through the door
Another smile, another hug, another day.....Just one more!!

Laura you were the most unselfish, loving, strongest woman I have known, I don't think I thanked you enough for being there for me and giving support through my most difficult time in life, I wish I could say it more to you, I Love You
