Nancy Stanford Obituary

NANCY STANFORD Nancy Stanford died peacefully at AAMC in Annapolis, MD on July 2, 2024. Nancy was born and raised in western Ohio. She attended Purdue University where she majored in chemistry and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, with distinction. After graduation, she used her background in chemistry to contribute to the research project that determined the benefit of low-dose aspirin after a heart attack. She moved to Wilmington, DE where she lived with her husband, Jim, and two sons. She was an active and creative quilter. Later, she became an equally avid knitter, knitting untold pairs of socks and sweaters. At age 50, after she and her husband divorced, Nancy entered law school at Widener University in Wilmington. She received her JD and became a Deputy Attorney General for Delaware enforcing child support orders. She was also admitted to the bar of the US Supreme Court. In 2008, she met John Turner and they began to travel the world. They went to all the continents, including Antarctica, and over 50 countries. In addition, they made numerous genealogy trips to cemeteries and county land offices. She is survived by a sister, Kay Solomon, and two sons, Stephen and Philip Davis, as well as (in her words) "the light of my life, John." A memorial service will be conducted at Third Haven Friends Meeting, Washington St, Easton, MD at 3 PM on Thursday, August 1st. Note that the building is not air-conditioned, so dress appropriately. The service will also be available via Zoom. Request Zoom info [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the building fund of the Third Haven Friends Meeting.
