Kenneth Kinzig Obituary

Ken "Mr. K" Kinzig died just short of his 78th Birthday at his home, under the care of his wife Joan, son Todd & Hospice after a long illness. He was born September 28, 1938 in Erie, PA to Ann Komorny & Norman Kinzig. He joined the Navy in 1956 & was honorably discharged as a Second Class Petty Officer in 1959. He then worked overseas for the Philco-Ford Communications & Electronics Division for 9 years. He traveled many places around the world putting in communications systems. Ending up in Vietnam, Laos & Bangkok, Thailand, putting in communications for the Vietnam War. He met & married Joan Baran of Philadelphia, PA who was working for Philco-Ford as well. They were married in Bangkok, Thailand in 1967. They returned to the US in 1969 & settled on a 40-acre farm on Hwy. 52. They lived there raising their 3 children, Angus cattle & alfalfa for 29 years. They sold the farm to The Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center for the Handicap in 1998. Then moving to Longmont, CO to become "City Slickers". Ken was active in real estate, opening Kinkane Company with Jimmie Kanemoto, his longtime friend. Ken & Joan owned several businesses from 1970 to 2010. Ken enjoyed talking to his wife Joan over a good cup of coffee, being with his family & friends, rides to the mountains, swimming, ice skating, shooting pool, rehabbing classic cars & working. Ken is survived by Joan, his loving wife of 49 years; 2 daughters, Samantha Kinzig of Longmont and Heidi Racanelli of Lafayette; & a son, Todd Kinzig of Longmont; 3 grandchildren, Jack Baran Racanelli, Isabel Marie Kinzig-McBreen & Nadia Marie Racanelli; 3 sisters, Marie Bayhurst of Erie, PA, Mary Lee Osterberg of Davenport, IA, and Sharon Morettini & her husband John of Erie, PA; 2 brothers, Steve Kinzig of Erie, PA, and Mike Kinzig of Los Angeles, CA; and numerous nieces & nephews. Families by choice are Howie & Jean Carter of Fort Collins, CO, Charlie & Henrietta Garcia of Erie, CO, Pete & Maureen Schroth of Frederick, CO, Joan Warner of Longmont, CO & their families. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 sisters, Joanie Gilmore of Torrington, WY and Carol Graham of Sparks, NV. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. No services were held but a celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Longmont Meals on Wheels c/o of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St., Longmont, CO 80501 in memory of Ken Kinzig. Joan and family,

God bless you in this time of grieving. May all the beautiful memories that Ken has left you get you through the daily struggles. Ken was such a beautiful soul, he is surely in Heaven with his Father. He will always be in my heart. I love you Joan. Hugs and Kisses!

Joan, I was saddened to learn about Ken's passing and know this is a difficult time in your life (and for the kids), but somehow we find the strength to carry on. We can only hope that their spirit goes to a better place.
